“Varalaxmi will be playing the female lead. We are yet to sign her officially, but she has given us dates next month,” Tarun Gopi told the daily.

Antony, of Lenin Bharathi’s 2018 award-winning film Merku Thodarchi Malai, will be playing the male lead alongside Varalaxmi. The film is billed to be an action drama.

According to the daily, Gopi said: “When a girl gets married, she has to go to her in-laws’ place as a daughter. Similarly, when a guy gets married, he has to be like a son to his in-laws. Kalyanathukku apparam oru marumagala, marumaganave irundha sikkal dhaan (It is difficult if one remains to be a daughter-in-law or son-in-law after marriage).” He continued, “It’s a family drama, but there’s an action knot in it. Women have the strength of an elephant. Yaanai balam theriyama modhina enna aagum? (What will happen if you clash with an elephant without knowing its strength?) We should not undermine the grit of women.”

According to the director, the shooting will begin in Chennai and later continue in Pattukottai, Pudhukottai and Dindigul. Music director Ilaiyaraja has been approached for composing the music.

“There are almost 41 character artistes in the film, including Marimuthu and Ilavarasu,” Tarun Gopi added.

Meanwhile, the director is ready with Thimiru 2. “It’s an action-based script, and will work only in theatres. I’ve already spoken to distributors for this film’s theatrical release.”
