Veteran Actress Rita Bhaduri Dies At 62

Veteran actress Rita Bhaduri, who has worked in many films and television shows, passed away on Tuesday in Mumbai. According to IANS, she was admitted to a hospital in Vile Parle where she was undergoing dialysis for a kidney ailment. She reportedly died around 1.30 a.m. She was 62.

Television actor Shishir Sharma took to Facebook to condole her death. He wrote, “We deeply regret to inform you that Reeta Bhaduri has departed for her journey beyond. The funeral rites will be held on 17th July, Tuesday 12 noon at the Cremation Ground, Parsi Wada Road, Parshiwada, Chakala, Andheri East. Extremely sad.. lost a wonderful human being .. a mother to many of us.. will miss u Ma…(sic)”

Rita, a student of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, was first noticed in a role in the Malayalam film Kanyakumari where she starred with Kamal Haasan. She went on to do several films in Hindi and Gujarati. She has worked in films such as BetaKabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Kya Kehna, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Hero No. 1 and Virasat. She has also appeared in more than 20 television shows, including Hasratein, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Khichdi, Ek Nayi Pehchaan, Amanat, Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka and Kumkum. She was known for playing the roles of a mother or grandmother on-screen.

Her Nimki Mukhiya co-star Shiwani Chakraborty told IANS: “For the past two months, she was not keeping well. I will really miss her. More than a co-actor, she was a great human being. I learnt a lot of things from her. She was just like a family member.”

Zarina Wahab, her FTII batchmate, told The Times of India, “Rita Bhaduri was the prettiest in our batch. I don’t know what to say. I am in shock hearing the news of her demise.” The actress said she had constantly been trying Rita’s number for the past five days, but there was no response. “I was unaware about her health condition. In fact, we were planning to visit her house for a small get-together,” she added.

Actor Anil Kapoor, who has co-starred with her in Beta and Viraasat, among others, said she would be dearly missed by friends, family and fans.

The actress also starred in Julie, as the friend-turned-sister-in-law, and was featured in the song ‘Saancha Naam Tera’.

Another gem of a song she stars in is ‘Tere Bin Soona’ from the Rajshri film Saawan Ko Aane Do.
