Vidya Balan, at a recent event, hinted at a possible collaboration with actor Rajinikanth and filmmaker Pa Ranjith. According to a PTI report, Vidya had vaguely hinted at acting with the Superstar in a possible Kabali-spinoff.
“We will know in a while,” she said. She was at the book launch of The Wrong Turn by Sanjay Chopra and Namita Roy Ghose, and even answered questions about her forthcoming films, Begum Jaan and Tumhari Sulu.
“Begum Jaan is releasing on April 14. After that I’ll begin Tumhari Sulu. So the preparations are going on,” she said.
Last week, reports of Vidya being on board a Rajini-Ranjith project started doing the rounds, with a source even telling Silverscreen that it is highly likely. “Vidya Balan was considered for Kabali. As she didn’t have dates, we went to Radhika Apte. Earlier this month, we spoke to Vidya again, and are in the process of making sure she joins our team. Nothing is confirmed, though,” the source said.
This new project is produced by Dhanush under his Wunderbar Films, and will mark Rajinikanth’s and Pa Ranjith’s second collaboration after last year’s August release Kabali.
Meanwhile, Vidya’s Tumhari Sulu, directed by Suresh Triveni, will reveal her fun side. A comedy-drama, the film will follow an RJ called Sulochana, fondly known as Sulu, and the trouble she finds herself in.
Her other film, Begum Jaan, is a historic drama directed by Bengali filmmaker Srijit Mukherji. Vidya plays the lead role of a brothel’s madam during the partition of India in 1947. The film also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Gauhar Khan, and Ila Arun, and is bankrolled by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt.
