Vijay Sethupathi Confirms Biopic on Muttiah Muralitharan

Actor Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed that he will essay Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan in a biopic written and directed by MS Sripathy. The actor took to Twitter and shared a poster which said that the official update will be given soon.

According to speculations, the biopic will be titled 800, based on the number of wickets taken by the spinner during his career. Reports are also stating that the first look of the film may release on October 13.

Earlier in an interview to IANS, Vijay had said: “Portraying Murali is a challenge I’m looking forward to. I’m delighted that Murali himself will be closely involved with the project and guiding me on the cricketing aspects. I am thankful to Murali and the producers for the faith bestowed on me.”

The legendary cricketer also opened up about the movie and told IANS, “We are looking at a late 2020 release. I am honoured that an accomplished actor such as Vijay Sethupathi will be playing me in the film. I have been actively collaborating with the creative team for the past several months and I will continue to support this project.”

Reports state that the film be released in several other languages, besides Tamil. The film is being produced by Movie Train Motion Pictures and Dar Motion Pictures. The rest of the cast and crew names are yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, Vijay Sethupathi is hailed for his latest release Ka Pae Ranasingam with Aishwarya Rajesh. Directed by debut filmmaker Virumandi, it was released on a pay-per-view basis on OTT platform Zee5.

Sethupathi also has Maamanithan in the pipeline, which is being directed by Seenu Ramasamy. The film will see him pair up with Gayathrie S. The actor also has Uppena in Telugu and Laal Singh Chaddha in Hindi.
