Vikranth-Starrer ‘Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu 2’ To Release On July 12

Vikranth At The 'Suttu Pidikka Utharavu' Press Meet

The much-awaited sequel to Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu, starring Vikranth and Arthana Binu in the lead, will have a worldwide release on July 12. The film recently received a U certificate from the Censor Board.

The latest poster features Vikranth and the rest of his Kabbadi team at a match.

The film is directed by Selva Sekaran, a former assistant of Suseenthiran, who directed the original film in 2009 with Vishnu Vishal, Saranya Mohan and Kishore in the lead. It was Vishnu Vishal’s first film and it also introduced many supporting actors, including Soori and Appu Kutty.

The film was a sports drama about a kabbadi team from a village that makes it big. The teasers of the sequel have confirmed that it will be a continuation of the original story, with Vikranth joining the kabaddi team, and its journey from there. Director Selva has also reportedly based the sequel on some real-life incidents. The director himself is a kabaddi player.

Actor Kishore reprises his role as the coach of the team, and Pasupathy has joined the cast as Vikranth’s father. Arthana Binu, who charmed all as Aandal in Kadaikutty Singham, plays the female lead. Soori and Appu Kutty return as supporting actors, with Ganja Karuppu, Anupama Kumar and others.

Selvaganesh, the composer of the original film, is on board for the sequel too. There are four songs in the sequel and each one is by a popular singer. A folk song titled ‘Thiruvizha‘, sung by Anirudh Ravichander and Kalpana, ‘Kabaddi Kabaddi‘ by Shankar Mahadevan, ‘Orasatha Di‘ by Karthick and Swetha Mohan, and ‘Otha Parvayil‘ by Haricharan have released.

The film began production in December 2016, and was shot in Kovilanchery, on the outskirts of Chennai. Cinematorgaphy is by E Krishnasamy and editing by Ajay.  Poongavanam and Anandh of Saai Arpudham Cinemas are the producers.

Vikranth, who was last seen with Athulya Ravi, Suseenthiran and Mysskin in Suttu Pidikka Utharavu, is currently gearing up for the release of director Jagadeesan Subu’s Bakrid.
