Vil Vitha, the upcoming Tamil film, is a psycho thriller based on the 2018 Ayanavaram sexual assault case, in which a minor was assaulted by multiple men, says the film’s writer-director Hari Uthraa.
The film is produced by the director himself in association with R Usha under the I Creations banner. The title poster was released on social media on Friday on the occasion of Dussehra.
In conversation with Silverscreen India about Vil Vitha, Hari says, “It is a psycho thriller, but does not have any aspects of a revenge drama. The story is inspired by the 2018 incident in Ayanavaram and will highlight the damage caused in the lives of the child and the parents after such an incident. The film is set in the delta region of Tamil Nadu. The title refers to the play between the negative and positive forces that happens throughout the film.”
The filmmaker notes that he penned multiple scripts during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown, and Vil Vitha was one among them.
The film stars debutant Arun Micheal Daniel as a folk theatre artist. The cast of the thriller also includes Araathya, who has acted in the upcoming film Powder, as the mother of a child, played by Janaki (of Karnan fame), as well as Keluvai Suresh as a police inspector and SMT Karunanidhi as the antagonist.
The film went on floors in September. It was shot by cinematographer Sivakumar Ganesh in a 20-day schedule in Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Mannargudi in Tamil Nadu. Most of the film was shot at night, the director reveals.
