Visaaranai Wins ‘Cinema For Human Rights’ Award At Venice Film Festival

Visaaranai, director Vetrimaaran’s 60-minute experimental film, won Amnesty International Italy’s ‘Cinema for Human Rights’ award at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival. The team showed up at the festival in traditional South Indian attire.

“The film tells a tragic and unjust story in an unconventional style. The look is sleek, and occasional flashes of irony makes the film original and unsettling. An example of courageous cinematography which is beautiful and only right to give space and voice “- said Veronica Pivetti , actress, director, spokesperson for Amnesty International Italy and president of the jury of the prize.  “Many other films in competition have dealt with various aspects of rights human, with sensitivity and originality. But ‘Visaaranai’, taken from the experience of a survivor, now an activist for human rights, has prevailed over the others.”– said Riccardo Noury, spokesman for Amnesty International Italy.

Visaaranai stars Attakathi Dinesh, Anandhi, Samuthirakani Aadukalam Murugadoss and Misha Ghoshal in important roles. Lyca Productions have recently secured the overseas distribution of the film. Watch the trailer of Visaaranai here.
