It’s been a month since the Tamil film industry called off the strike and no new major releases have happened over the period of time. But the comic book-loving audiences had a feast with the release of two major Hollywood movies which are still performing well at the Indian box-office, namely Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.
Hindi films which are releasing this weekend are Bioscopewala and Parmanu, which is a major release for John Abraham. Parmanu’s date had been clashing with some of the major releases in Bollywood which includes Padmavat and Padman, so the makers had to push the date further.
Apart from that, the release of three Tamil movies is also on the line. One is Malayalam-Tamil bilingual Abhiyum Anuvum and Sema and Oru Kuppa Kathai that makes it a total of five films battling it out at the box-office this Friday.

Kabuliwala, Rabindranath Tagore’s short story of a trader from Afghanistan who regularly visits Calcutta (now Kolkata) to sell dry fruits and the bond he shares with eight-year-old Mini, continues to tug at heartstrings. This has also been adapted on screen and stage several times ever since it was published in 1892.
Now Fox Star Studios, in association with Star India, is presenting a film based on it but with a twist, titled Bioscopewala. Directed by Deb Medhekar, the film is a modern take on the story, where a popular photographer goes missing on a plane to Kabul, prompting his daughter to fly back to India and understand why he travelled there. The film stars veteran actor Danny Denzongpa, Geetanjali Thapa, Tisca Chopra and Adil Hussain. Incidentally, Bioscopewala was the only Indian film in competition under the Asian Future section at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival held last year.
Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran

Parmanu was initially scheduled to release on December last year. Its release date got pushed to February 23, 2018, and then to April 6. But now its clear that the film, based on the nuclear tests conducted at Pokhran in 1998, will hit the screens on Friday.
The film stars John Abraham and Diana Penty in the lead roles. Boman Irani is in the supporting cast as well. Written by Saiwyn Quadras, Sanyuktha Chawla Sheikh and Abhishek Sharma, the film is directed by Abhishek Sharma.

Releasing as Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum in Malayalam, the film deals with love and relationship in a digital world. The film stars Tovino Thomas and Pia Bajpai as Abhi and Anu respectively. The music for the movie is composed by Dharan Kumar.
Known as Asia’s first woman cinematographer, Vijayalakshmi started her career as an assistant cinematographer to Ashok Kumar and got her first big break in Chinna Veedu, directed by K Bhagyaraj. For Tovino Thomas this is his debut Kollywood movie.

Oru Kuppai Kathai

The upcoming Tamil indie film Oru Kuppa Kathai is ready to hit screens this weekend. Directed by debutant director Kaali Rangaswamy, Oru Kuppa Kathai is a story of the downtrodden. The film will see National Award winning choreographer Dinesh Kumar making his debut as a hero. The film also has a number of debutants, including actor Kiran, who is the antagonist and Deepan Chakravarthy, who scored the background music for the film.
Rangasamy, while talking to Silverscreen, said he made sure that he was making the right choice with this film. “I strongly believed that this story needs to be told because the movie shows two extremes of the society, the poor and the elite and how things change between them.”
Oru Kuppa Kathai is produced by Mohamed Aslam under the banner of Film Box Productions and is distributed by Red Giants Movies. Music for the film is done by Joshua Sridhar.
