Bollywood’s studied silence on political issues finally ended yesterday. A group of actors, directors, writers, singers joined the protest against the violence in JNU yesterday.
And just how did Bollywood do it? From Anurag Kashyap to Vishal Bhardwaj and Vasan Bala, from Swanand Kirkire to Taapsee Pannu, Zoya Akhtar and Dia Mirza, a host of celebrities showed up in Mumbai’s Carter Road to protest. There were songs and poetry… from Hum Dekhenge by Faiz to Bawra Mann from Hazaraon Kwaahishein Aisi to Aao Na from Haider.
Here are some videos from social media of the songs and poetry that were part of their protest.

A phenomenal night at Mumbai’s Carter Rd. The directors (Kashyap, Bhardwaj, Sinha, Akhtar) calmly directed, the singers and poets sang and recited, the actors (Richa, Taapsee, Dia, Swara, Ali) chimed in, the audiences watched and participated. Truly a Bombay blockbuster. pic.twitter.com/Krx1t09SoQ
