The shoot for the upcoming Bengali film X=Prem, directed by Srijit Mukherji, will begin on July 2, announced SVF, the makers of the film, in a press release on Thursday.
The “new age romantic film” stars Anindya Sengupta, Shruti Das, Arjun Chakrabarty and Madhurima Basak in the lead.
X=Prem tells the story of a couple — software engineer Khilat (Sengupta) and Joyee (Das) — who go through various challenges and turmoil resulting from an unexpected turn of events. With their “eternal love and each other’s support, they are determined to face any and all problems” that life throws at them and they overcome their problems using “scientific methods”.

Depicting every phase of life, X=Prem is a heartwarming romantic journey, read the press release. The film focuses on the complexities of human emotions and the selflessness of love as well as the pain one has to face in life, the makers further added.
While X=Prem is the debut film for Sengupta, who has previously featured in the web series Paanch Phoron and the short film Udaan, as well as Das, it also marks the first collaboration of the director-actor duo of Mukherji and Chakrabarty. It is Basak’s first time working with the director as well.
X=Prem is Mukherji’s 16th film in collaboration with SVF. His debut film Autograph was with SVF. This was followed by the National award-winning Gumnami, and other award-winning films such as Vinci Da, Rajkahini, and Begum Jaan.
On making his first film in the romance genre, Mukherji said in the statement, “I have been getting huge requests from the audience to try my hands at romantic genre since a long time. The time has finally arrived! X=Prem is definitely a new age romantic film that will reflect the beautiful shades of college romance.”
Regarding the film, Chakrabarty said, “I really liked the script and I have a very interesting character to play. I think this kind of romance has not been seen in Bengali films before. The perfect blend of romance, drama and science will definitely intrigue the audience. And moreover, when you get a chance to work with someone like Srijit Mukherji, you can put your entire trust in him.”
