Jyotika Starrer ‘Ponmagal Vandhal’ To Premiere On Amazon Prime On May 29

After several setbacks, it is now official, Jyothika starrer Ponmgal Vandhal will hit the Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, Amazon Prime, directly on May 29, 2020. The film helmed by debutant JJ Fredrick‘s and bankrolled by actor Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and co-produced by Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian was to hit theatres on March 27 but was postponed due to coronavirus outbreak, that has caused the shutting down of theatres.

Tamil Nadu Government To Allow Resumption Of Post-Production Activities From May 11

A few days back, several Tamil film producers along with the Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI) and the Federation of Small Screen Technicians penned a letter, requesting the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edapadi K Palaniswami. They requested that an order be passed allowing the resumption of post-production activities for both the film and television industry and shooting, with a minimal crew, for the television industry. They also agreed that it would not be advisable to commence with film shooting since Chennai and several other cities have been marked Red because of the coronavirus.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in March, the film and television industry had suspended all administrative, post-production, and promotional work for the movies to avoid the spread of the deadly virus. Following this, the nation-wide lockdown led to the shutting down of all sectors, leaving all daily wage workers out of an income.

South Indian Producers Stand By Suriya’s Decision To Release ‘Ponmagal Vandhal’ On OTT Directly

Recently, it was confirmed that Jyotika starrer Ponmagal Vadhal will be directly hitting the Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, Amazon Prime, without seeing a theatrical release. This decision came in the light of financial constraints of the makers, Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, and for the simple reason that it would not be allotted enough screens once the lockdown ends and theatres open up, given the number of big-budget films that are awaiting a release.

Kangana Ranaut is the latest to donate to the fund raised by the Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI) for the benefit of members and daily wage workers. The actress who was working on director Vijay’s Thalaivi, a Tamil biopic on late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, before the lockdown has also decided to pay the daily wagers of the film a sum of 5 lakh rupees.

Kajal Aggarwal Donates 6 Lakhs Towards Corona Relief

Actress Kajal Aggarwal is the latest from the film fraternity to donate towards Corona relief funds raised by various organisations. The Comali star has chipped in 2 lakhs to the Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI) for the benefit of members and daily wage workers, 2 lakhs to the Corona Crisis Charity raised by the Telugu Film Industry, and 1 lakh each to the PM-Cares Fund and Maharashtra CM Fund.

Ajith Makes Rs 1.25 Crore Contribution To Corona-related Funds

Actor Ajith Kumar is the latest to contribute to the Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI). The actor has chipped in 25 lakh rupees for the benefit of daily wage workers who are currently in a state of crisis owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. In addition to this, the actor has also contributed 50 lakhs each to the PM Cares Fund and CM Relief Fund and 2.5 lakhs to the PRO (Public Relations Officer) Union.

They have contributed five lakhs, ten lakhs, one lakh, and two lakhs respectively.

‘Ramayana’ To Be Re-telecast From March 28 On DD National

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar has said that following ‘popular demand’, 80s television serial Ramayana will be re-telecast from Saturday, March 28 on DD National. He also said that two episodes will be aired in a day, one from 9 am to 10 am and the other in the evening from 9 pm to 10pm. This announcement came in the wake of a nationwide 21-day lockdown because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
