The trailer of Neerja, a biopic based on the life of Neerja Bhanot, a 23-year-old Pan America flight attendant who was shot dead by terrorists in 1986, is out. Directed by Ram Madhvani, the film has Sonam Kapoor playing the brave-heart. Shabana Azmi plays Neerja’s mother in the film.
The trailer of the film is crisply cut, with intense moments from the film interwoven with newspaper clippings of the incident from 1986. The Pan Am Flight 73, in which Neerja worked as a purser, was hijacked by terrorists in Karachi. Neerja, when she realised that the American passengers in the flight were the terrorists’ prime targets, hid their passports, and 17 hours later, when the terrorists blindly opened fire, Neerja opened the emergency exit and rescued around 359 passengers.
Neerja is scheduled to release on February 19, 2016.
