Tamil poet and lyricist Piraisoodan turns 63 today.

He began his career as the lyricist of ‘Rasathi Rosapoove’ for Chirai in 1985, and wrote songs for ThayagamEn Rasavin Manasile and Neeyum Naanum. ‘Aattama Therottama’ from Captain Prabhakaran and ‘Sola Pasunkiliye’ from En Rasavin Manasile, which won him the state’s Best Lyric Writer Award, are among his best. He is also known for his ability to write a full song in just a few minutes.

As a tribute to him, our song of the day is the hit ‘Kalakalakkum Mani Osai’ from the 1991 film Eeramaana Rojavae. Composed by Ilaiyaraaja, the song rendered by Mano and S Janaki is about all that changes when two people are in love. Shiva, Mohini, and her group of dancers are in a place as scenic as the visuals of the song. Outside, bells ring, and birds sing, and in the heart, many dreams are born. Nothing comes in the way of the love they have.
