A sequel of Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, the 2013 Tamil romantic comedy film which starred Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, is definitely on the cards, said the director of the film, Ponram, in a social media post on Thursday.
Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, which also featured actors Sri Divya, Sathyaraj and Soori, became of the biggest hits in the early stages of Sivakarthikeyan’s career. It had a great opening at the box office and was well-received by the critics as well.
Produced by Escape Artists Motion Pictures banner, the film was remade in Kannada as Adyaksha and in Telugu as Current Theega.
The director’s post comes amidst reports that Sivarkarthiyan, during a media interaction, stated that films like Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam were best left untouched, when speaking about the possibility of a sequel. He reportedly also added that he had discussed a sequel to the film with his team but had come to the conclusion that a second part should not be made as the film is already an epic that cannot be repeated.
Sharing a Tamil newspaper article on the same, Ponram on Thursday, confirmed that there will definitely be a sequel to Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. The director, who has collaborated with Sivakarthikeyan in three films (Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Rajinimurugan, and Seemaraja), also added that since the actor has attained “maturity,” he would instead rope in young and upcoming actors for the sequel. However, Ponram did not divulge any other details about the proposed project.
