In an interview, Samuthirakani spoke about casting Jayaram, “Kalidas suggested his father watch Appa. Jayaram saw the film and appreciated the content. He then expressed his interest in doing the film in Malayalam.”
Meanwhile, Aakasha Mittay marks Varalaxmi’s second Malayalam film. She made her Malayalam debut with Kasaba last year. The actress has a few films in the pipeline including Vikram Vedha starring Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi, Ammayi, Sathya, and Nibunan with Arjun and Prasanna.
Aakasha Mittay also has the child actors who featured in the original, Yuvalakshmi and Nashath, along with actress Muthumani in a pivotal role.
