Ram Gopal Varma has quit Twitter. The Sarkar director, tweeted a rather dramatic message before leaving the social media platform.

“My pleasantly unpleasant surprise is I am getting out of Twitter…To all my followers, no thanks for following me all these years,” he tweeted.

However, he has instead shifted to another social media platform – Instagram. “I decided to speak only through pictures and videos on Instagram from now on..” he tweeted.

His last tweet though, was more dramatic than his announcement:

“This my last tweet before my tweet death..but I will not RIP nd seriously work from now on @RGVzoomin Birth:27/5/2009 Death:27/5/2017 [sic].”

The reason for him quitting Twitter isn’t known yet, but he isn’t the first celebrity this week to quit the microblogging site.

Singer Sonu Nigam, to show support for his colleague Abhijeet Bhattacharya after his account was suspended, quit Twitter accusing the platform of being a “one-sided sham”. Abhijeet’s account was suspended after several users reported him for tweeting offensive comments at JNU student activist Shehla Rashid.

RGV, meanwhile, had a rather colourful (and mostly crass) stint on Twitter.

Soon after USA President Donald Trump’s victory, RGV went on a roll celebrating Trump’s victory with a tweet about the Obamas’ faces turning “blacker”. He also went on to trash talk about Akhil Akkineni’s marriage.

Two months ago, he lashed out at Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan following the release of his film Katamarayudu. In a series of inflammatory tweets, the filmmaker taunted the actor, his family, and even likened him to the tyrannical Emperor Nero. RGV frequently picked on Kalyan for his political moves, too.

He also had a complaint filed against him after his sexist and distasteful tweets on International Women’s Day this year.

“Women’s day should be called #MensDay because men celebrate women much more than women celebrate women” – was one such tweet.

And perhaps the most colourful of them all was when he attacked Tiger Shroff and called him a transgender. With a barrage of tweets, he tried to instigate a fight between Shroff and Vidyut Jammwal. Jammwal later released an audio of a phone call between him and the Varma, where the latter was seemingly intoxicated.
