Pithamagan, one of the most successful films by director Bala, is set to be remade in Hindi. It will reportedly be produced by Bollywood actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik of Chal Mere Bhai fame.
According to a report in Bollywood Life, the Hindi remake rights of the film have been bought by Satish Kaushik. The producer was quoted saying, “I bought the rights of the film as it is an unusual and hard-hitting story. My hands are full of acting assignments at the moment, so I won’t direct it.” Details regarding the cast and crew are expected to be announced soon.
It is to be noted that Kaushik earlier directed the Hindi film Tere Naam, a remake of Vikram starrer Sethu, also directed by Bala.
Pithamagan is based on Nandhavanathil Oru Andi, and is the story of an undertaker written by Jayakanthan. The film which released in 2003, achieved a milestone in Tamil cinema and received great appreciation from all around. The film stared Vikram, Suriya, Sankeetha, Laila and Karunas in the lead roles, with the sound tacks composed by Ilaiyaraja. Vikram won the National Award for best actor for his performance in the film.
The film was dubbed in Telugu and released as Sivaputrudu in 2004, and was remade in Kannada as Anatharu in 2007.

On the work front, actor Vikram is currently said to have signed a film with director Ajay Gnanamuthu of Demonte Colony fame. The film is likely to go on floors from June, and it may be officially announced in April. He is currently awaiting the release of Dhruva Natchathiram by director Gautham Menon, starring Simran, Parthiban, Aishwarya Rajesh and others. The film was delayed because of financial issues.
The actor is working on the action thriller Kadaram Kondan, by director Rajesh Selva. The team recently finished their month-long shoot in Malaysia.
His film Mahavir Karna went on floors in Hyderabad last week. Said to be one of the most expensive films, Mahavir Karna is directed by RS Vimal, whose only other directorial was the Malayalam film Ennu Ninte Moideen in 2015.
