A complaint was submitted against Oviya, director Anita Udeep and the crew of 90ML, by the Indian National League Party’s State Women’s chief Aarifa Razak. In her complaint to the Chennai City Police Commissioner on Monday, Aarifa Razak not only called for a ban on the film, but also demanded an arrest of the cast and crew.
Aarifa Razak claimed that movies like 90ML instigated rape. “Such films tend to create rapists,” she said, adding that the film was a disgrace to ‘Tamil culture’. She also alleged that the movie will spoil the younger generation and promote rape culture among them, as per a report by The News Minute.
She questioned the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for allowing the movie’s title, as it was a term used by people who consumed alcohol. She alleged the movie encouraged young girls, school and college going students to go against ‘cultural values’ and take up smoking, drinking and discussion related to sex.
The police is yet to file an FIR.
Recently, Anita Udeep was pulled into a controversy by producer Dhananjayan, one of the many people criticising 90 ML of being vulgar since its trailer released. It showed Oviya, Anson Paul, Monisha Ram and other women drinking, partying and having fun.
Dhananjayan, the producer of films like Mr Chandramouli and Kaatrin Mozhi, criticised her for making an ‘irresponsible’ film that was ‘detrimental to society’. He accused her of “spreading venom among youngsters to make money,” and this lead to a long argument between the two of them, and other critics and commentators.

Director Anita Udeep hit back at him saying, “Dear uncle Dhananjayan I have not made a socially relevant film like Chandramouli with gilma songs. 90ML is an adult film and yes it’s shamelessly entertaining!! I have not talked about shit like you have in Settai! Have talked about shit women go through in life.”
When the film’s trailer released, Anita Udeep had said it promised to be a bold and entertaining film. Oviya too had responded to the controversy saying, “If you don’t have confidence in your culture, or if you are a male chauvinist, please don’t watch 90ML.”
