Naseeruddin Shah, the veteran Hindi actor who was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai on June 29, was discharged on Wednesday. His son Vivaan Shah confirmed this and shared pictures of the actor back at home in an Instagram Story.
The 70-year-old actor was treated for pneumonia at the Khar-based hospital. The actor’s wife Ratna Pathak Shah had earlier told PTI that he was “responding well to the treatment” and everything was “under control”.
His son, who is also an actor and known for films such as Happy New Year and 7 Khoon Maaf, posted two photos of Shah in his Instagram Story and wrote that the veteran actor is back home.
Best known for films like Masoom, Sarfarosh, Iqbal, A Wednesday, Monsoon Wedding, and Maqbool, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Nishant, Mohra, Ishqiya, The Dirty Picture, and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, the veteran actor won his first National Award in 1979 for his role in Sparsh. He earned his second and third National awards for the 1984 film Paar and the 2005 film Iqbal.
Shah has also worked in several international films such as Such A Long Journey, The Great New Wonderful, and Mango Dreams.

A prominent theatre artist, he was seen in a number of films in 2019 and 2020 including Vivek Agnihotri’s The Tashkent Files, Seema Pahwa’s Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi, and Zee5’s Mee Raqsam. He also appeared in the Amazon Prime Video web series Bandish Bandits, where he played the role of a classical musician.
The National School of Drama and Film and Television Institute of India alumnus will next be seen in the upcoming film Maarrich. Directed by debutant Dhruv Lather, Maarrich also features Tusshar Kapoor, Anita Hassanandani, Rahul Dev and Seerat Kapoor. Shah will also feature alongside Rasika Dugal in the upcoming film The Miniaturist Of Junagadh.
Shah was admitted in the same facility as film legend Dilip Kumar, who passed away on Wednesday at 98.
