Pradeep Guha, the producer and media personality, died on Saturday.
According to a report by the Hindustan Times, Guha was battling cancer and died at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. “He passed away due to cancer today afternoon at the hospital. He was 68-69,” a hospital source told PTI.
In a statement to the media, Guha’s wife and son said, “We regret to announce the sad demise of our dear Mr Pradeep Guha. In these COVID times the family has requested to be allowed to grieve in private and will share a date for a prayer meeting in a few days. No condolence visit at home due to COVID restrictions. Please keep him in your prayers.”
Pradeep Guha’s media career spanned over several decades. An alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, he joined the Times Group and went on the become the company’s president. He also served as Zee Entertainment’s CEO for three years.
Guha was currently serving as the Managing Director of 9X Media Private Limited.
Apart from this, Guha was also a well-known producer. He produced the Hindi films Fiza (2001) and Phir Kabhi (2008).
Tributes and condolences for the late producer poured in after the news broke. Several film personalities took to social media to condole his death.
According to the Times of India, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Bennett, Coleman and Company Limited, Sivakumar Sundaram said, “Pradeep Guha was instrumental in reinventing the advertising and establishing the primacy of print and launching several for BCCL…In his untimely passing, the industry has lost a leading light. He leaves behind a void that cannot be filled.”
Actor Priyanka Chopra wrote, “You were always my forever champion. Your random calls of encouragement, your zest for life and your ambition was something I have always admired so much. This loss is so personal. I will miss your voice and strength so much.”
