At a time where lyric writing isn’t taken too seriously and a combination of quirky words passes off for songs, lyricist Vivek stands out with his exclusive and exciting usage of words in every song. In his five year journey so far in the Tamil industry, he has managed to hit the bullseye when it comes to emotion, regardless of the relationship or situation in the song. As the lyricist turns 35, here’s five songs we’re listening to, on his birthday.

Ey Sandakaara, Irudhi Sutru, 2016

Vivek read all of our minds perfectly back then. This song is not just an ode to the boxing coach from his student but from every Madhavan fan who adores him. Irudhi Sutru is a Sudha Kongara film that also starred Ritika Singh, Nasser, Kaali Venkat, and Zakir Hussain. Music was by Santhosh Narayanan.

Adiye Azhage, Oru Naal Koothu, 2016

A breezy romantic number that actually features when a couple is at loggerheads but works just right. A befitting song to explain that a squabble between a couple needn’t necessarily lead to abuse and accusations. Oru Naal Koothu is a Nelson Venkatesan that starred Dinesh, Nivetha Pethuraj, Bala Saravanan, Mia George, and Ramesh Thilak. Music was by Justin Prabhakaran.

Aalaporaan Thamizhan, Mersal, 2017

Tamizhan or not, there’s no way you can’t not like this song. There’s a vibe this song it exudes every time you listen to it leaving you completely charged up. And that’s the reason why the craze around this song hasn’t died down until now. Mersal is an Atlee film that starred Vijay, Nithya Menen, Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal, Vadivelu and Sj Suryah. Music was by AR Rahman.

Ullaallaa, Petta, 2019

Celebration time? There’s no doing away with this peppy number. With simple quotes to live by, Rajinikanth and Vivek remind you that happiness is the key. Petta is a Karthik Subbaraj film that also starred Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazzudin Siddiqui, Simran, Megha Akash, Trisha, Malavika Mohanan and Sanath. Music was by Anirudh Ravichander.

Singapenne, Bigil, 2019

Right along the lines of his Aalaporaan Thamizhan, a motivational number for women. There’s no doubt that the song has touched a lot of women, listen to it on those off days for its full effect. Bigil is an Atlee film that starred Vijay, Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff, Vivek, and Kathir. Music was by AR Rahman.
