Kattappava Kanom:
This comedy-entertainer will see Sibiraj and Aishwarya Rajesh in lead roles. Kattappava Kanom is helmed by debutant director Mani Seiyon. Aishwarya Rajesh, in an interview with NowRunning, said her role in the movie reflects “the mood and body language of today’s just-married new-age girl. I am delighted to play a girl with a modern and urban look”.
There are no prizes for guessing the relevance of the title. Kattappa is a popular character in the epic-saga Baahubali: The Beginning, essayed by actor Sibiraj’s father, Sathya Raj.
The music has been composed by Santhosh Dhayanidhi while Anand Jeeva has cranked the camera. Kattappava Kanom has been produced by WindChimes Media Entertainments.

Bruce Lee:
After much delay, Bruce Lee has finally found its slot for release. This comedy-entertainer starring music-composer-turned-actor, GV Prakash, and Kriti Kharbanda was wrapped up towards the end of 2016. The film, helmed by debutant director Prashant Pandiyaraj, is a rom-com set in a college. While it was initially titled Baasha Engira Antony, a reference to Rajinikanth’s film Baasha (1995), the director had to drop the plan as he could not obtain permission from the makers of Baasha.
The film also marks the Tamil debut of actress Kriti Kharbhanda; her other movies include Raaz: Reboot in Hindi and a couple in Telugu.
Bruce Lee has been bankrolled by Kenanya Films, with music by GV Prakash himself.
Oru Mugathirai:
Another movie that has been long-delayed, and will finally hit screens is Oru Mugathirai. Senthil Nadan, who had last directed the 2007 horror-thriller, Sivi has helmed the movie. The director spoke to TOI about the unique concept in which the social media giant, Facebook, is both the hero and the villain.
Oru Mugathirai will have three different story tracks that will merge post interval. Rahman, Aditi Chengappa and Suresh play the lead roles. Director Senthil says he considered three senior actors for the role of a psychiatrist before zeroing in on actor Rahman for it.
Prem Kumar, who was an associate with music meastro AR Rahman, has composed the music. R Selvam has produced the movie.
Trapped:
National-Award winning actor Rajkummar Rao’s Trapped had its world premiere at the Mumbai Film Festival on October 26, 2016, and received a standing ovation after its screening.
Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, it is “the story of a guy stuck in an apartment with no food, no water and no electricity, and his survival is based on his primal instincts”.
The movie will be screened without an interval to keep the sensibilities of the plot intact. Trapped also stars Geethanjali Thapa in a pivotal role. The movie has been produced by Phantom Pictures.
Alamara:
Alamara is a light-hearted entertainer directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas. The movie’s plot revolves around a newly-married couple’s relationship with a cupboard – and is said to be a sarcastic take on marriages.
Fun fact: Award-winning actor Salim Kumar will speak for the alamara (cupboard), director Midhun has said in an interview to TOI.
The movie stars Sunny Wayne and Aditi Ravi in lead roles while Ranji Panicker and Sonu Anna Jacob will be seen in important roles. Sooraj S Kurup has composed music; Alamara has been produced by Full On Studios.
C/O Saira Banu:
Manju Warrier-starrer, C/O Saira Banu will see the actress essaying the role of a post-woman in the movie. The film has been directed by Antony Sony, and Shane Nigam will play the son of Manju Warrier.
The trailer of the film – shared by the actress on her Facebook page, and the promo video have garnered more than 4 lakh views in less than 24 hours.
Fun fact: The movie marks the return of Amala Akkineni to Malayalam cinema after 25 years. She will be seen playing an extended cameo in C/O Saira Banu. Eros International has produced the movie.
