Produced by Dr Paul Varghese under the Dr Paul’s Entertainment banner, the film is directed by Ratheesh K Rajan and written by Mohammed Jishad. Shahi Kabir, who wrote Joseph and Nayattu, serves as Adavu’s creative director.

Rajan previously directed Thrissivaperoor Kliptham (2017), also starring Asif Ali, and he is now collaborating with the actor again for Adavu, his second directorial venture.

Speaking to Silverscreen India, Rajan says, “Adavu is a family drama. Asif Ali plays the protagonist. He is a family man. The film is based on a particular incident and emotion, so I cannot reveal much. It is a serious subject that deals with relationship dynamics and conflicts.” He adds that Adavu will be relatable to family audiences as well as the youth.

“During the Covid-19 induced lockdown, the writer and I planned to work on a film that could be shot in the prevailing circumstances. Then, Jishad came up with this family drama. When we approached Asif, he liked the story and agreed to be part of this film. Producer Varghese, who has backed films like Poomaram and Ellam Sheriyaakum, expressed his interest in backing Adavu when Jishad was developing the story,” the director says.

Rajan reveals that Kabir was part of the film’s team since its beginning and has provided significant creative inputs. The film’s technical crew includes cinematographer Ansar Shah and editor Kiran Das.

Adavu will be shot in Kochi and its outskirts. “Pre-production and casting process is underway. We will be casting some new faces through auditions. Other significant actors in the film will be revealed in the coming days with the launch of character posters. We are yet to decide when the shooting will commence,” the filmmaker adds.

Rajan started out by working with late filmmaker AK Lohithadas and went on to work as the associate director of Amen (2013), co-director of Vikrithi (2019), and chief associate director of Kumbalangi Nights (2019).

Asif Ali, who was last seen in Kunjeldho, has a handful of other projects in the pipeline, including Kooman, Kaapa, Innale Vare, Kothth, and Kuttavaum Shikshayum
