Amitabh’s involvement in the project has been rumoured since its inception last month. The actor himself confirmed it at an event recently. He said, “It’s a great honour and privilege to be working with Aamir and Yash Raj, and also to work with Victor, I just look forward to that moment.”

Amitabh shied away from revealing further information about the film. “I don’t know if I can talk much about the film at this moment. I haven’t been given permission. All I can say is that it is a very exciting subject,” said the star. He also added that the title – Thug, is a tentative one.

Aamir Khan is said to play a character on the lines of his infamous Rangeela role, while Bachchan will essay his mentor in the project. Deepika Padukone has reportedly been roped in to play the female lead.

The project was announced earlier this year, with Vijay Krishna Acharya attached to direct. Some reports claim that the movie is inspired from the 1839 English novel, Confessions of a Thug, by Philip Meadows Taylor. The novel deals with the thug culture that was prevalent during Britain’s rule over India.

Reportedly, Actor Hrithik Roshan was initially offered the lead role in the movie. But it is said that the actor denied the offer due to creative differences with the team behind Thug.
