Another Biopic On Jayalalithaa By Director Kethireddy

Director Kethireddy Jagadishwara Reddy has announced yet another biopic on Jayalalithaa and Sasikala titled Sasilalitha, the first-look of which released yesterday. Talks are on with Kajol to play the role of Jayalalithaa, and Amala Paul to play Sasikala.

Director Kethireddy told Silverscreen, “We have approached both Kajol and Amala Paul with the script. Jayalalithaa was a soft-spoken person who never got angry with anyone. I felt Kajol would be apt to play the part.” He said that unlike the other biopics on Jayalalithaa’s life that have been announced, his film will focus on her life from childhood till death. “The administrative part of her life is different. She was a person who couldn’t be in love with anybody even if she wanted to. She has expressed disappointment about not having married or had a child. This will be part of the film.”

About the poster, which comes with the caption ‘The Storm’, he said, “There is no Jayalaliathaa without Sasikala, it’s like what we say about Ardhanarishvar.” He also said, “Some will like Sasikala’s portrayal and others won’t, but I’ll show how things truly were after speaking to all those associated with her life. Big technicians will be part of the movie, it will work out well.”

Post Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016, five biopics on her life have been announced by directors in the Tamil industry. AL Vijay, Priyadarshini, Bharathiraja, Lingusamy are making films on her life, and Gautham Vasudev Menon is making a web-series. Ram Gopal Varma recently announced a biopic focusing on Sasikala’s relationship to Jayalalithaa.

Meanwhile, director Kethireddy is awaiting the release of Lakshmi’s Veeragrandham, a biopic on Lakshmi Parvathi. The film stars Sri Reddy, and is about Lakshmi Parvathi’s marriage with Veeragandham Subbarao, and the problems in her second marriage to NTR. “The film is under production. I want it to release after elections since there is a model code of conduct in place,” the director said.
