The Kerala government on Saturday announced that it would hand over the case of actor Kalabhavan Mani’s death to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). According to an ANI report, a notification was issued by the Home secretary based on the recommendation of the state DGP.

The 45-year-old actor, who has appeared in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films, passed away at a hospital in Kochi on March 6. He had been suffering from a chronic liver ailment. However, a government lab report found samples of toxic methyl alcohol in his blood samples, which caused the police to file a case of unnatural death. A recent lab report from Hyderabad confirmed the presence of highly toxic methyl alcohol, also called methanol in his body at the time of his death. The reports mentioned that high content of spurious liquor was present in his blood samples.
Mani’s family members had earlier approached the state government seeking a CBI probe into his death.
