The film was officially launched by the makers through an inaugural ceremony on October 12. Ponkumaran, who has predominantly worked in the Kannada film industry, will be making his Tamil directorial debut with Golmaal.

Speaking to us, Ponkumaran, who has earlier worked as an associate with filmmakers K Bhagyaraj and KS Ravikumar in films such as Dasavathaaram (2008) and Aadhavan (2009), said about Golmaal, “I wrote the script for the film during the pandemic time in 2020 and visualized it to be a big-budget film. We wanted to show visuals that the audience has not seen much, and after some research, we zeroed in on Mauritius as the location.”

“As the title suggests, ‘golmaal’ is something that every one of us would have done in our lives, even at a small scale. The story will be a comedy of errors that results from ‘golmaals’ of the characters. It will be a laughter riot,” he added.

The film will go on floors from November and shooting is expected to wrap up in December. The team is currently in Mauritius, location hunting. The film will be shot completely in Mauritius, the director said.

While S Saravanan is the cinematographer of the film, Don Bosco is the editor. Arul Dev will compose five songs for the film. The film is produced by B Vinod Jain under the Jaguar Studios production banner.

Aside from Shiva and Jiiva, other members of the star cast include Payal Rajput and Tanya Hope as the female leads, Murali Sharma, Yogi Babu, Sonia Agarwal, Manobala, Karunakaran, Ramesh Khanna, Naren, George Mariyan, Sanjana Singh, Mottai Rajendran, Panju Subbu, Sadhu Gokila, Vipin Sidharth and KSG Venkatesh.

“Since it is a comedy script, it was a conscious decision to cast comedians for most of the characters. Regarding Jiiva and Shiva, both of them could pull off comedy and were ideal to the roles. After narrating it to Jiiva, the team unanimously felt Shiva can do justice to the other role. Most of the cast were first choices. I wanted to have known faces on board as well, and that’s how Tanya and Payal were cast as female leads,” the director added.

According to the director, after wrapping up shooting in December, the team is looking to be ready with the film, by February 2022. The film is expected to release during the first half of 2022.
