The trailer and audio launch of director Nagendran’s directorial debut Kaaval was held last week at an event which was attended by the cast and crew of the film.
GV Prakash Kumar’s music for the film was lavishly praised by the celebrities at the event. Gheetha picked the theme song as her favourite while editor Praveen KL said the music has elevated the film to another level.
The film, which has Vimal, Punnagai Poo Gheetha and Samuthirakani in the lead roles, is produced by Gheetha’s SG Films. Young actor Ashvin Raja was visibly happy for having performed a full-length role. “This is my first serious role after Kumki. I even had to dance a bit,” he said. Cinematographer NK Ekambaram was all praises for the director, whom he referred to as a ‘darling of everyone in the industry’.
Nagendran revealed titbits of the film, which is about caste issues and also, about people who kill others for money. Apparently, Samuthirakani, a long-time friend of the director, agreed to do the role only after he heard the story, which is inspired from real-life incidents. The director added that the film’s title was changed to Kaaval after the police officials and other dignitaries who watched the film suggested that the film’s previous title Nee Yellam Nalla Varuvada wasn’t relevant to its story.
