Actor Kamal Haasan was first approached to play Mohanlal’s role in Peruchazhi, Arun Vaidyanathan, the director of the Malayalam film starring Mohanlal told us. “I narrated the script to Kamal sir and he liked it a lot. While I was waiting for his reply, Mohanlal sir gave me the dates. So what was originally a Tamil film became a Malayalam project,” he explained. The film is a political satire and was shot in India and the United States, much like Arun’s debut venture Achamundu Achamundu. He said plans were on to remake the film in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
Mohanlal who plays the role of Jagannathan, also called Peruchazhi (bandicoot), is hired to help win an election in the United States. The film also has Mukesh, Baburaj and Aju Varghese in important roles and Ragini Nandwani plays the female lead. The comic film also has a social message packed in, and is slated for an August 29th release. The music by Arrora has already released and features a quirky track by Blaaze.
