Madhavan And Simran To Act In ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’

Madhavan and Simran will play Nambi Narayanan and his wife Meena Nambi in the upcoming biopic Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Madhavan’s first directorial. They will be seen together on screen 17 years after Kannathil Muthamittal.

Confirming speculations about this, Madhavan posted a picture of them together on Instagram today, and said, “15 years later . Thiru and Indira turn into Mr. & Mrs. Nambi Narayanan. (sic)”

Their first movie together was K Balachander’s Paarthale Paravasam (2001). A year after this, they played Thiruchelvan and Indira, the much loved couple in Kannathil Muthamittal, Mani Ratnam’s directorial about a Sri Lankan Tamil child (played by PS Keerthana), adopted by Tamil parents.

Fans are excited about their third outing together. Actress Trisha also wrote below Madhavan’s post, “You two are aging in reverse, Madhavan.”

The film marks the directorial debut of Madhavan. Though Ananth Mahadevan of Askar fame initially signed on to co-direct the film, he dropped out due to unknown circumstances.

The film is being shot in three stages with Madhavan and Simran. He reportedly said, “Nambi Narayanan’s character starts as 27-year-old Princeton student and goes on till he is 70. He will be seen first in his early thirties to mid-forties, and then in his late fifties – that’s when the spy case actually happens, and finally his seventies, where he recalls everything.”

While Simran’s look is not out yet, Madhavan shared a picture of him with a salt-and-pepper look, in preparation to play Nambi Narayanan.

Nambi Narayanan is a former ISRO scientist who was falsely charged with espionage, leaking defense secrets in 1994 and spent 55 days in jail. A couple of years later, and after a prolonged legal battle, the CBI and Supreme Court dismissed charges against him. His name was cleared and the Supreme Court recently also ordered the Kerala government to pay him a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.

Nambi Narayanan later wrote his autobiography in Malayalam titled ‘Ormakalude Bhramanapatham’, which was published in October last year.
