Heder bagged the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Troy Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor, becoming the second actor from the deaf community to win an Oscar. CODA tells the story of Ruby Rossi, the only hearing member in a deaf family. The win made CODA the first film with predominantly deaf actors in leading roles to receive the honour.
The event also witnessed a return to red carpet appearances.
