Actress Parvathy Thiruvoth, the star of Uyare, will make her debut as a director soon. She confirmed this to Cinema Dinamalar, and said that the project had been in her mind for a while now. “I’ve been wanting to direct a film for many days. There’s a story I want to say in the form of a film,” she said.
Work on the movie will reportedly begin by 2020. Meanwhile, she will continue to act in films. Reports say that she may be teaming up with Fahadh Faasil for an upcoming project, to be directed by Mahesh Narayanan. The film is likely to go on floors in July this year, and an announcement will be made soon.
Parvathy previously worked with Fadhah Faasil on Take Off (2017), also directed by Mahesh Narayanan. The film won a lot of appreciation especially for Parvathy’s performance as a nurse stuck in Iraq during war. Her recent film Uyare, in which she played an acid-attack survivor, was written by Bobby and Sanjay, the scriptwriters of Take Off. The film was directed by Manu Ashokan, and starred Tovino Thomas and Asif Ali. It opened to good reviews. Parvathy currently also has Virus, a film about the Nipah virus outbreak, and Varthamanam in the pipeline.
Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, in which she stars, has done the rounds of film festivals and will release in theatres soon.

While it is common to see actors turn directors, there are not many actresses who have sustained as directors of mainstream films. Malayalam cinema has been relatively more welcoming of female directors, with Suhasini Maniratnam, Geethu Mohandas, Revathi, being some of the successful filmmakers today.
