Director Selvaraghavan’s Suriya-starrer Nandha Gopala Kumaran (NGK) will have a worldwide release on May 31. The film’s producers Dream Warrior Pictures announced the release date yesterday.
Producer SR Prahbu recently confirmed that Suriya has begun dubbing for the film, which means the post-production work is on.

NGK was scheduled to release during Deepavali last year, but had to be delayed because of the director’s health issues. The shoot for the film wrapped in January, and a teaser released last month. Suriya as Kumaran was seen as a politician for whom crowds of fans come running, but who also becomes a supplicant in front of his superiors. Sai Pallavi and Rakul Preet feature as the other leads in the teaser. Bala Singh, Mansoor Ali Khan, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Sarath Kumar and Jagapathi Babu play supporting roles.
The film marks the first collaboration of Suriya and director Selvaraghavan. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja, and lyrics for one of the songs is by Vignesh Shivan, the director of Suriya’s Thaana Serntha Kootam. Cinematography is by Sivakumar Vijayan, editing by Praveen KL. The film is produced by SR Prabhu’s Dream Warrior Pictures.

Meanwhile, Kaapaan, Suriya’s third film with director KV Anand, is set to release during a holiday weekend in August or September. This was confirmed by the actor in a Facebook live interview that he gave along with Mohanlal recently. Suriya confirmed that he plays a Special Protection Officer in the film, with Mohanlal as a prime minister.
Suriya recently also joined the cast of the Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga’s upcoming film directed by Sudha Kongara of Irudhi Suttru fame. The film will be co-produced by Suriya 2D Entertainment, and is expected to begin shoot soon. He is currently working on a film with director Hari for the sixth time, after Vel, Aaru, and the Singam series.
