According to a report, the makers want change to the year because they feel Sharwanand will fit his role better if the film is set in 2009. The makers are considering showing him in a younger look, with trimmed beard. Pre-production work on the film has reportedly begun. However, there is no confirmation regarding this, and the makers are unreachable for comment.

The film is expected to go on floors this March, and the release is scheduled for July. It is said the actor will wrap up Sudheer Varma’s film at the earliest so that he can concentrate on the remake.

Earlier it was confirmed that Samantha and Sharwanand will play Jaanu and Ram, characters played by Trisha and Viay Sethupathi in the Tamil original. Premkumar himself had announced the news.

He has bought the Telugu remake rights and is very interested in 96. Dil Raju is in the United States right now. Nothing else has been confirmed. We just had a general conversation about the film. Nothing is final.”
