Amitabh Bachchan has been complaining about his decreasing Twitter followers. He even joked or threatened – take your pick – to quit Twitter. After his rants, the Twitter team met the actor to ensure that the star with over 30 million followers doesn’t quit the platform.

Turns out there was some truth to his rants. Jack Dorsey, CEO and co-founder of Twitter, announced on Thursday that he lost 200,000 followers, after Twitter decided to remove suspicious accounts.
According to Bloomberg, Vijaya Gadde, Twitter’s head of legal, policy, trust and safety, on Wednesday had announced that the “company would begin removing locked accounts from follower counts across profiles globally. As a result, the number of followers displayed on many profiles may go down. Locked accounts are those identified to have involved sudden suspicious changes in activity.”

Donald Trump, Katy Perry, Barack Obama are some of the high-profiles users who took the biggest hit. Back in India, it’s not good news for Bachchan senior. From 34,898,545, his number of followers came down to 34,474,579 – he lost around 423,966 followers. Shah Rukh Khan comes next, losing around 362,382 followers. He had over 36 million followers. Among Bollywood actresses, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor lost the maximum number of followers.
In the Tamil film industry, Shruti Haasan leads the pack by losing 55,824 followers. Siddharth and Trisha Krishnan come next. For Trisha, who has numerous ardent fans on Twitter always ready to like and retweet her pictures, the number of followers came down to 4,800,551 from 4,848,322; while Siddharth lost 48,088 followers.
Malayalam actor Mammootty, who has fervent supporters online, lost around 1.68 per cent of his followers, which is one of the biggest drop.
Stars who remain relatively unscathed are Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Allu Arjun, Pawan Kalyan and Anirudh Ravichander.
