“We Solve All Our problems By Banning Movies”: Anurag Kashyap Supports Ae Dil Hei Mushkil

As Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hei Mushkil is facing threats from cinema owners association and right-wing Hindu outfits, director Anurag Kashyap has come out in support of the film. On Friday, Cinema Owners Exhibitors Association of India (COEAI) had announced that they would not screen movies starring Pakistani artistes in the four states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Goa. ADHM has Pakistani actor Fawad Khan playing a pivotal role.

On Sunday, in a series of tweets, Anurag Kashyap said, “The world must learn from us. We solve all our problems by blaming it on movies and banning it. #ADHM . With you on this @karanjohar.”

He also sought to know why prime minister Narendra Modi had not apologised to the nation for visiting Pakistan in December, 2015.

He signed off with a tongue-in-cheek ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.

Karan Johar’s film stars Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai, Ranbir Kapoor and Fawad Khan in the lead roles. On Friday,  COEAI decided that the movie will not be played in single-screen theaters in four states, amid tension between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Uri attack last month.

Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) has openly threatened to vandalise theatres and multiplexes that screen the film that releases on 28 October. Earlier, MNS had issued an ultimatum to Pakistani artistes and technicians working in Mumbai, to leave the city.

Many artistes from Bollywood, including Om Puri, Shyam Benegal, Vikram Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt and Censor Board chief Pahalaj Nihalani, have slammed the ban on the release of the film which has completed production.
