A hashtag #WhyBanBollywood has been trending on Twitter since Tuesday morning. On July 13, a Bangladeshi court had banned the use of Bollywood film songs as mobile phone caller tunes after hearing a petition from the President of the Bangladesh Music Industry Owners Association Arifur Rahman and General Secretary, SK Shahed Ali. Interestingly, the hashtag, which was first used by a Twitter user as a protest against Bangladesh’s ludicrous ban, seems to have snowballed into a campaign against Bollywood. Several Twitter users from Pakistan are calling for a similar ban in their country as well.
