According to reports, Francis got into fight with someone in the crowded Koyambedu market yesterday. The fight turned violent and he allegedly pushed the person down and strangled him. The people in the area called the Koyambedu police who came to the spot immediately. The injured person was taken to the Kilpauk Government Hospital but could not be saved.

As of now, sources say that Francis has been charged for murder under Section 302 of the India Penal Code. It is also believed that a CCTV footage of the scene was retrieved by the police, and that the video reportedly showed that Francis did not murder the person but went to his help because he was ailing and had fallen in the market place. More details will be revealed after the postmortem report comes out.

Francis is currently in police custody in Koyambedu and investigation is on. Reports suggest that he was in an inebriated state when he picked up the fight yesterday. Francis’ friend Mithran told Silverscreen, “We heard that the person who died was having fits and Francis went to his help. The investigation will reveal more. Francis had been sleeping in Koyambedu bus stand because he didn’t have money to pay rent and work barely came by. He was drunk often but I know he would never murder someone.”

His friend said that Francis was suffering from an illness a while ago and had also been mentally unwell. Back in 2016, his illness was also reported as serious and a call for financial help from people in the film industry was put out. Mithran and some of his friends would often go to his support.

Francis Kiruba has worked as the lyricist of three popular songs with the big names in Tamil cinema. In 2011, he wrote ‘Kuthikkira Kuthikkira’, composed and sung by Ilaiyaraaja for Suseenthiran’s directorial Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai. For the 2001 comedy entertainer Kabadi Kabadi, Francis wrote the song ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzu’, composed by V Selvaganesh, sung by Shankar Mahadevan. The film was written by K Bhagyaraj and directed by Pandiarajan. His latest song was ‘Poovum Poovum’  for the 2013 film Aadhalal Kaadhal Seivir, also directed by Suseenthiran, with music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
