The week is marked by three major releases in Tamil – Kanchana 3, Mehandi Circus and Vellai Pookal. Kalank, produced by Karan Johar, is the sole release in Hindi while Nani starrer Jersey is the main release in Telugu.
Kanchana 3
Apart from writing and directing the film, Raghava Lawrence also plays the lead in this horror-comedy. While Oviya and Vedhika play the female lead, Kovai Sarala, Sreeman and Devadarshini, who were part of the previous film, return for the third instalment in the franchise. Soori, Kabir Duhan Singh, Manobala and Yogi Babu are also part of the cast.
Mehandi Circus
Madhampatty Rangaraj makes his acting debut with the film, while Masaan fame actress Shweta Tripathi is the female lead. The film is produced by Studio Green and is touted to be an intense musical love story. Mehandi Circus’s music is composed by Sean Roldan. The movie is directed by Raju Saravanan.
Vellai Pookal
Vellai Pookal, directed by Vivek Elangovan, marks the debut of streaming platform Tentkotta into the production space. The film is co-produced by Indus Entertainments and released by Trident Arts R Ravindran. The movie is an investigative thriller featuring Vivek in the lead as a retired police officer who is pulled into a murder investigation while visiting his son in the US. The trailer seemed like a cat-and-mouse chase between the law enforcers and the offender.
Jersey
Featuring Nani in the lead, Jersey is about a man, who decides to return to his passion – cricket. The movie is a sports drama with its protagonist – a married man with a kid, deciding to take up cricket during his 30s. Shraddha Shrinath plays Nani’s girlfriend and wife in the movie. The movie, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, is rumoured to be based on the life of cricketer Raman Lamba. Aniruddh Ravichander has composed the music for the movie.
Kalank
Directed by 2 States fame Abhishek Varman, Kalank features an ensemble cast comprising of Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. The movie, jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, marks the coming together of Dhawan and Bhatt for the fourth time. The film is reportedly set in the 1940s. Music for the movie is composed by Pritam.
