Actress Kangana Ranaut will play a 30-year-old divorcee in her next film, Simran. Directed by Hansel Mehta, Simran is being shot in Atlanta, United States, and narrates the harrowing experiences faced by divorced women in society. In what is being called an “emotionally demanding” role, Ranaut plays an NRI from Gujarat. The story, according to an Indian Express report, explores her ambitions and her growing attachment to the world of crime.

Following the success of films like Queen and Tanu Weds Manu, Ranaut has been very selective in her choice of films. As Rani in Vikas Bahl’s Queen, Ranaut played a small-town girl who goes on a holiday abroad after her fiancé calls off their wedding at the last moment. She went on to play similarly unconventional characters in Revolver Rani and Tanu Weds Manu. Her last release, Katti Batti, was panned by critics and audience alike.
The 29-year-old actress is reportedly attending acting workshops to prepare for her role in Simran. This will reportedly be the most intense character she has played to date. Ranaut recently finished shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon, which co-stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.
