Actress Saroja Devi, in a conversation with Silverscreen, spoke at length about working with the late DMK leader and erstwhile scriptwriter M Karunanidhi. Saroja Devi, who collaborated with him on two films – Iruvar Ullam and Ellorum Innaattu Mannar – said, “Karunanidhi ayya was a great artist and an administrator. He dedicated his life to Tamil language and the state that bears its name. He wanted the language to be restored to its former glory and undertook so many efforts to make sure that it happened. I was always a little wary about speaking his dialogues onscreen, but he cheered me on. He would patiently explain the nuances of each line so that they do not get lost in translation. That is how dedicated he was.”

It’s been six days since DMK President M Karunanidhi was admitted to Chennai’s Kavery Hospital. In the past few days, he’s had a host of visitors, including Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Kamal Haasan, Sivakumar and his son, Suriya. All roads to Chennai’s Kavery Hospital have been blocked. DMK President M Karunanidhi was admitted to the ICU of the hospital at 1.30 a.m on Saturday after his blood pressure dropped. Family members, DMK party workers, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam have visited the 94-year-old veteran politician at the hospital, while the crowd outside the hospital swelled with anxious party cadres and supporters of the Kalaignar.

In a late night development, M Karunanidhi was admitted to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital after his blood pressure dropped. The DMK chief was brought to the hospital on Saturday night at around 1.30 am. His blood pressure has been stabilized with medical management and he continues to be monitored and treated by a panel of expert doctors, said the hospital statement.
