Debutant director Lakshman’s Romeo Juliet, which starred Jayam Ravi and Hansika, is likely to be remade in Hindi. While there has been no official confirmation, a Times of India report suggests that actor-director Prabhudeva was impressed with the film, and has initiated talks for a remake. Romeo Juliet is a romantic drama with a contemporary interpretation on the classic theme of love.
But even here she is only bothered about how these other things impact her and not for a second she has thoughts about her Romeo. While that is perfectly fine and in tune with her character throughout the film, she actually behaves no differently in the climax when we are supposed to believe otherwise.
The film does have some fun moments, but overall meanders aimlessly with ridiculous plot twists. The climax is highly melodramatic that seriously tests your patience.
The penniless hero with a heart filled with equal parts gold and discriminatory humour and subtle disapproval about her clothes, or the rich, controlling, power-hungry businessman, full of obvious disapproval about her clothes, body, and handwriting? And, the jokes.Granted, there’s a ‘Romeo’ – as loosely as the style is used these days to represent anything romantic; a Juliet, who’s characteristically more juvenile, and a story, which, even if it isn’t essentially a “tragedy”, ends up being one anyway.
Sounder Rajan’s camera work is functional and adhering to the script. Imman’s tracks are utilitarian and the picturization of the number ‘Idharku Thaanae’ is novel while the same thing cannot be said of the ‘Dandanakka’ number. An already very popular track such as this could have been shot with a lot more zing.
Romeo Juliet is a middling debut by Lakshman, if not best. Though the film lacks emotional connect, it’s marginally better than the ready-made romantic comedies parceled out in Tamil cinema.
The cast and crew of director Lakshman’s Romeo Juliet met the media on Thursday evening. While Hansika, who plays the female lead in the film, garnered praises for her looks and cherubic expressions, actor Jayam Ravi grabbed the limelight, thanks to his witty statements. Especially when he said this: ” “Indha padathula Dan Hansika nadichirkanga…She […]

D Imman has composed the song, and we hear that it was recorded recently. Interestingly, Vishal Dadlani, who frequently collaborates with Anirudh on his projects, had earlier recorded a song for the project.
It mentions Shenkottai Gangadhara Aiyar Kittappa, replete with an old stage photograph of him dressed as Andal; it mentions KB Sundarambal – unrecognizable in the garb of a British soldier – both gender reversed in their theatre finery, and it also briefly pays tribute to Sankaradas Swamigal – an acclaimed Tamil playwright, hailed as the father of modern Tamil theatre.
When he finished college, Bala Murugan left Virudhunagar for the big city. “You feel a little insecure,” he explains, “when you leave your hometown for a place like Chennai. ” And that formed the crux of the story for his 2010 movie Angadi Theru – a tale set in the busy Ranganathan street – following the life of a small-town boy who comes to the city to work. “That movie is based on my experiences. 70 percent perhaps?

Santhosh’s dialogues are crisp and meaningful. On the field, you feel every drop of sweat, every disappointment, exhilaration and moment of levity (thanks to Soori) because the actors have given their all. It helps that both Vishnu and Lakshman are cricketers in real life too.ss
Vishnu has fitted well into the role as he is a cricketer in his real life. His performance; particularly in love scenes with Sri Divya, his flare-up on coming to know of the politics involved in cricket and fed up with friend’s decision. Sri Divya is not only turning out to be prettier but her performance is also getting better. Lakshmanan’s character and the way he has performed lingers in our minds. Though Soori’s comedy in a serious cricket team doesn’t get well, it is good. Santosh’s dialogues are too good. His very sharp dialogues is a major plus for Jeeva.
Sri Divya scores as the bubbly school girl maturing into a level-headed youth. Lakshman seems a natural, in his role as Ranjith. Though Soori has only a few scenes, he is good. Imman’s music rocks and the melodies haunt. The references to the BCCI chief Srinivasan are blatant and the dialogues are probing. The cricket sequences have been very realistically shot.
