The Weekly Round-Up : August 3 to 9, 2014

Several Tamil film celebrities took part in the Director Union’s protest against the Sri Lankan government, and director SP Jhananathan cancelled the shoot of Purampokku to make it to this event.  We also learnt that the makers of the biopic Ramanujan were taking the film all the way to Hollywood; Suhasini might direct a short film while Jigarthanda producer Kathiresan acquired the remake rights of the Rajinikanth classic Moondru Mugam.

Samantha Adopts a Puppy

She wrote on her microblogging website, “Welcoming the newest member of the family, NORI.  Love at first sight. Found her on the road. #AdoptDontBuy.  Thanks to my beautiful family for letting me keep her. Love them”.Actress Trisha, who is also fond of animals and who regularly raises her voice for their well-being, was the first one to appreciate Samantha.

Thalaivasal Vijay in Ajith 55

Actor Thalaivasal Vijay, who was last seen in Singam II, has been roped in to play a vital role in Ajith’s next with director Gautham Menon. After actors Devi Ajith and child artiste Anikha, Vijay is the latest to join the Ajith 55 camp. The flick is produced by AM Rathnam of Sri Satya Sai Movies. While Trisha and Anushka play the lead, Vivek and Arun Vijay form the supporting cast. Harris Jayaraj composes the music and Dan Macarthur wields the camera.

STR Not in Ajith 55

STR has denied recent rumours that he will make an appearance in Ajith 55.  Reports had it that the actor, a self confessed Ajith fan, had been roped in for a one-minute appearance in the opening song of the film.

Anikha in Ajith 55

Child artiste Anikha is the latest to join Ajith 55. The star will reportedly play the daughter of Ajith in the film. She has already started shooting for her role in Chennai. Anikha is popular in the Malayalam film industry and has even won the State Award for her work in Anchu Sundarikal. Anikha will join actress Devi Ajith who was also signed on recently to play a crucial role. The shooting for Ajith 55 is progressing at a rapid pace in Chennai. The team is currently filming scenes in and around the ECR with actors Ajith, Trisha and some supporting actors.

A Romantic Song For Ajith 55

Harris Jayaraj has recorded a romantic track for the upcoming Ajith Kumar movie directed by Gautham Menon. The song features the lyrics of Harris favourite Thamarai and will be sung by Karthik. It will be shot on Ajith and Trisha in the film. It is expected that the song will feature in the flashback sequences of the film and will have a younger looking Ajith in it.

Malayalam actress Devi Ajith joins Ajith 55

Malayalam actress Devi Ajith is the latest to join the sets of Gautam Menon’s Ajith 55. Confirming the news, she tweeted, “Chennai beckons. Thanks Gautham Menon. Joined Ajith 55, excited!” The actress has also been roped in to do a ‘small, but pivotal’ role in the Jayam Ravi film Thani Oruvan.
Devi Ajith has been part of many Malayalam films like Trivandrum Lodge, Immanuel, Seetha Kalyanam etc. Also the latest we hear is that Ajith will play the role of a father to a little girl in the film. Actress Trisha, who is playing a pivotal role in the film, has begun shooting her portions.
The film’s first look is all set to be revealed soon. Co-produced by AM Ratnam and Gautham Menon, the film went on floors this April. Harris Jayaraj composes the music for this film.

STR gave up his title, AR Rahman received yet another doctorate – this time from the Berklee School of Music and two big movies released on the same day – Velaiyilla Pattathari starring Dhanush and Amala Paul and Sathuranga Vettai.Balaji Saktivel joked that the film was not just a showcase film, but a suitcase film, and director Lingusamy joined in the fun by telling us that Thirrupathy Brothers’ N Subhash Chandra Bose has a good ‘nose’ for scripts.

Jai in Manimaran’s Next

Actor Jai has signed on to star in director Manimaran’s next project. The Vadacurry actor will reportedly team up with actress Trisha in this one. The movie will be produced by Varun Manian of Radiance Media along with Sushant Prasad and M Govindaraj of Film Department production house. This is Manimaran’s second venture after the thriller Udhayam NH4. Velraj (whose debut film Velaiyilla Pattathari is releasing on July 18) will be handling cinematography for the project. The film will go on floors soon, and more details about the cast and crew will be announced later.

Director Thiyagarajan Denies Signing Anyone for Queen Remake

Director Thiyagarajan quashed all rumours surrounding Queen remake today. While it has been widely speculated that actress Trisha has been finalised, with some reports even suggesting that Samantha was offered the role, actor-director Thiyagarajan confirmed that he hasn’t signed on any actor or crew so far. “I am meeting many, but I am yet to zero in on the person. Recently, Samantha had mentioned that she was approached for the role. But it is not true. There are a few artistes under consideration including Trisha. I will make an announcement soon,” he said.
Ever since Thiyagarajan purchased the remake rights of the Bollywood super-hit movie in all four south Indian languages, rumours have been pouring in thick and fast – the latest report mentions Malayalam actress Manju Warrier as the possible contender.

Ajith to Get Another Makeover

Actor Ajith Kumar will sport two significantly different looks for his 55th film. The first will see him clean shaven and sporting his natural salt and pepper hair with a variety of khaki and jean shirts to suit his role of an investigator. The second look has been kept in wraps till now. Sources close to the team tell us that the fans will see a completely ‘different’ Ajith in certain ‘pivotal’ scenes in the flick. Director Gautham Menon is now working out the finer details of the second ‘makeover’ and will oversee the process himself.

Thiagarajan Denies Queen Casting Rumours

Actor and Producer Thiagarajan has dismissed speculation that Trisha Krishnan was the front runner to act in the Tamil version of the movie. Speaking over the phone, he said “There is no truth in the news that Trisha or anybody else has been finalised for our film. We are in talks with a lot of people but not finalised anything. This is a very important film and such things require lot of thought. Besides it’s a role that any talented actor would love to do. I have been hearing such speculations for  long time.” Thiagarajan has bagged the remake rights of the Hindi film Queen in all the Southern languages.

A Sequel to Aayirathil Oruvan

Director Selvaraghavan might make a sequel to Aayirathil Oruvan. The director had posted a message on his social media page that said, “My mind is always in AO 2. I need a break right now but I will make it for sure next year. Let’s hear the Cholas roar!”

GV Prakash Movie Gets Nayanthara’s Approval

Actress Nayanthara has given her nod to GV Prakash Kumar’s upcoming flick, Trisha Illana Nayanthara, being named after her. According to a rule framed by the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council, if a movie contains the name of a person, a ‘No Objection Clearance’ has to be obtained from them. So when GVP and team narrated the story to the actress, she was impressed enough to immediately agree to it.

Sona Heiden Turns Organ Donor

Sona Heiden has more in common with Trisha and Revathy than we all know. The actress, who celebrates her birthday on June 1, has decided to sign up as an organ donor. Sona is doing so because she ‘believes in saving lives’ and is ‘distressed at the prospect of fellow human beings dying due to unavailability of organs’.

The Amala Paul-director Vijay wedding that is set to happen next week in Chennai will definitely be a star-studded event. Dan MacArthur All Praise for Ajith 55

Going by Dan MacArthur’s regular tweets, the action routines in the Gautham Menon directorial, Ajith 55, will definitely be something to look out for. Tentatively titled Sathya Dev, MacArthur recently posted an update about the movie on Twitter – “#Ajith fights on. Scenes are looking very cool. Great work team.”

Selvaraghavan-STR Project on Hold

The shooting of director Selvaraghavan’s next film, starring Silambarasan and Trisha, has been put on hold. According to sources, this was because of Selvaraghavan’s financial issues with PVP Cinemas. The director has to amicably settle issues with the makers of Irandam Ulagam which was a disaster at box office. The producers’ council had earlier announced that Selvaraghavan has to bear half the losses and pay the amount to PVP Cinemas. Once this issue is settled, the shooting for the action thriller with Simbu and Trisha will begin.
