Madonna Sebastian, a Kerala-based youngster, will be playing the female lead in director Nalan Kumarasamy’s next, which has actor Vijay Sethupathi as the male lead. The Times of India reported that this yet-to-be-titled will be a breezy romantic drama. It has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Shooting commenced on Wednesday.
Santhosh Narayanan’s affecting score and the uncanny sound design (by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar) make up for the lack of energy in some of the scenes. This is true especially for the scenes in the first half, which feel aseptic and do not seem to breathe life. It is as if the director and editor had what they needed but couldn’t find the correct beat. But, in the second half, the film settles down and grows a heart that starts beating faster and faster as the film progresses towards the climax, and when it ends, it envelopes us with warmth that is genuine and well-earned.
Naturally, Vasu of Kappal has a friend – Nelson (VTV Ganesh) – who has to say “idhu allavo latchiyam!Vasu meets Deepika (Sonam Bajwa) in a place that Tamil cinema heroines don’t frequent. For instance, in one of the funniest scenes, Vasu wages a verbal war against a group of thugs.PS: The song rendered by Santhosh Narayanan – the background number for Vasu’s verbal war – is weight-u.
According to recent reports, actress Abhirami will essay the role of Jyothika’s friend in the upcoming Tamil remake of How Old Are You. The actress’s last Tamil release was the controversial Virumaandi opposite Kamal Haasan. The role to be essayed by Abhirami was played by Kanika in the Malayalam original and is an important one. Interestingly, this film marks the comeback for both Jyothika and Abhirami. Rosshan Andrews directs this film while Suriya is producing it under his 2D Entertainment. Santhosh Narayanan composes music while actor Rahman has been roped in to play Jyothika’s husband in the movie.

The former is a folk number in Santhosh Narayanan’s voice, with the angst-ridden lyrics of Ganesh Kumar Krish while Prabalamaagave, with its heavy use of EDM, instantly strikes a chord. And Santhosh, who had just received the title of Isai Beerangi from a member of the audience, walked swiftly up the stage and started belting out Kaatu Poochi from the soundtrack. Along with Sean Roldan.

Karthik Subbaraj has called the film a musical gangster film and the soundtrack is definitely eclectic and involves a melange of genres. Santhosh Narayanan uses everything from funky Tamil folk to pieces that recall Ennio Morricone’s scores for spaghetti westerns in the background. Then, there are also film songs that are used as montages. The film opens to the strains of Paasa Malar’s Malarnthu Malaratha (we see it first playing in a theatre where a shootout happens but in what is a frequently employed style in the film, the song spills over into the next scene where it plays as the hero’s ringtone), but there is also the mandatory Ilaiyaraaja song (here, it is Kadhalin Deepam Ondru) and even something as recent as Pesuren Peuren from Pannaiyarum Padminiyum.
Ramachandran and Soundara Raja have played their parts well. A lot of stars have been given breezy roles – Vijay Sethupathi, Nasser, Bhagavathy Perumal, Vigneshwaran, Ambika amongst others and they excel in it. Santhosh Narayanan’s songs have already become hits and his BGM is classy, setting the tone for the visuals. Gavemic U Ary’s cinematography is another plus for the movie.
Sean Roldan and Santhosh Narayanan’s aasthana singer – Pradeep Kumar- teamed up for a lovely rendition of Aagayam Theepidithal followed by a formal introduction of the film’s cast and crew.Speaking about the film, P Ranjith said, “We have tried to show the other side of North Madras in this movie.

Jigarthanda, his mafia musical with director Karthik Subbaraj, is on the verge of release and has been named one of the top five movies to watch out for by Forbes magazine. His ambitious Kaaviya Thalaivan with director Vasantha Balan is in post production now. And surprisingly, Lucia – the remake of the popular Kannada hit of the same name has also been completed.
