Aha, the Telugu OTT platform, officially launched its Tamil wing, Aha Tamil, with an event on Friday. Malayalam independent film Jallikattu was announced as India’s official entry for the 93rd Academy Awards. The Film Federation of India said on Wednesday that the decision was taken by a 14-member committee to send the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial for the Oscars’ Best International Feature Film category.
Director Lijo Jose Pellissery won the best director award, for Jallikattu at the 50th edition of the International Film Festival Of India in Panjim. The award was announced at the closing ceremony of the film festival held on Thursday afternoon. This is the second time Lijo has won the best director award at this film festival. Last year, he had bagged the award for Ee Ma Yau.

Jallikattu that premiered at Toronto International Film Festival in September, released in theatres in Kerala on October 17. The film, starring Chemban Vinod Jose, Antony Varghese and Sabu, is an official adaptation of writer S Hareesh’s short story.

Hareesh, the winner of Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2018 is back in his residence in Kottayam after attending the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where the world premiere of Jallikattu, the film adaptation of his short story Maoist, took place on September 8.The film adaptation of Maoist is action-oriented, with few instances of dialogues.
