Deepika Padukone: A Mainstream Star And A Versatile Actor

Deepika Padukone turns 34 today. The actress who started out as a model, made her acting debut in the Kannada film Aishwarya 14 years back. Her Bollywood film Om Shanti Om in 2007 was the one that really established her in the Hindi film industry. Ten years later, in 2017 Padukone found herself at the receiving end of death threats and the release of her film Padmaavat was briefly stalled. However, there is no stopping this actor. She handled the threats to her life and the vicious attack from Karni Sena with enviable restraint.

Two years after Padmaavat, Padukone has a movie coming out this week. Chhapaak will release on January 5, 2020. It is about Malti, a young woman who is attacked with acid and whose face and body are permanently disfigured because of it. The story is told from Malti’s point of view and is based on the story of activist and acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.

Chhapaak is being directed and co-produced by Meghna Gulzar and bankrolled by Fox Star Studios and co-produced by Deepika Padukone (Ka Productions). The also stars Vikrant Massey in the lead.

On the occasion of Deepika Padukone’s birthday, here’s a quick look at three of her best performances:

Piku Banerjee in Piku (2015)

Independent and individualistic, Piku is smart and has a mind of her own. However, her father, Bhaskor, isn’t exactly making her life easy. A man who takes his poop so seriously, Piku indulges her father and cares for him without saying many words. A role that has a female lead who is so close to reality, someone who endures the difficulty of work and taking care of a single parent, someone who takes a break sometimes and gets her mojo back because that’s who she is.

Not only was Piku one of Deepika’s most memorable film, she also proved her mettle as an actress in a story so simple and yet so heartwarming.

Tara in Tamasha (2015)

Tamasha as a film got all the praise two years after its release. At the time of its release, the film’s story was considered haphazard, its characters flaky and confusing. But somewhere down the road, people regarded it as something like fine wine that gets better with age. Many felt Tamasha‘s Tara was selfish and didn’t try to understand Ved much. Soon enough, you realise that one couldn’t really blame her.

Playing Tara was emotionally exhausting for Deepika, a role where a woman realises that things might never be the same. The break-up scene is perhaps one of the most poignant scenes in the film, where Deepika convinces us that those tears could be real.

Angie in Finding Fanny (2014)

Finding Fanny wasn’t exactly an indie film. It had Bollywood A-listers speaking in English and doing quirky, regular things. The film’s story sounds funny and was executed in such a way that all these quirky characters’ were bizarre in their own ways and yet, considered it all, normal.

Deepika Padukone as the young widow whose husband dies on the day of their wedding, is spunky, almost ethereal, and yet grounded enough to have simple dreams. The role demanded her to be more subtle with fewer dialogues but focusing more on her body language. And she gave us some serious fashion goals too with her summery dresses and skirts. Her performance in Finding Fanny is easily one of the most underrated ones in her acting career.

‘Draupathi’ Trailer Called Out For Misogyny And Casteism

The trailer of Rishi Richard starrer Draupathi is out now and has caused a stir. The film helmed by Mohan G (Pazhaya Vannarapettai) has been crowdfunded with the help of GM Film Corporation. The film also stars actors Sheela, Karunas, Nishanth, Soundarya, Lena, Seshu, Aaru Bala, Jeeva Ravi, Ilango, Gopinath, Subramani and other newcomers.

The film deals with several factors like caste (although it appears from the trailer that it seems to be making a case for caste and not against it), love, and the pride people tend to hold for land. The trailer is all over the place, makes little sense while taking itself very seriously, because it is filled with veiled insults. It has also been called out for misogyny.

Director Mohan G took to Twitter to release the trailer.

The director has also been called out for retweeting a pro caste pride message on his social media.

The film will reportedly hit screens on February 28.

Six Movies That Trace Actor Jiiva’s Journey On His Birthday

Jiiva is known for taking up different roles right from the beginning of his career. Be it as a hopeless romantic or as unstable young man, the actor lives his characters. As he turns 36, here’s a list of five films that trace the Jiiva’s journey.

Raam, 2005

It was with this film that Jiiva proved his acting prowess. The bond he forges with his mother Saradha (Saranya Ponvannan) as an autistic youth Raam has been etched forever in my memory. Directed by Ameer, the film also stars Gajala, Rahman, and Ganja Karuppu.

E, 2006

Although a little farfetched as a concept, Jiiva fit the role perfectly here. We also saw a strong, if not an equal, performance from Nayanthara as a ‘Special Dancer’ back then. Directed by SP Jananathan, the film also stars Karunas, Pasupathy and Ashish Vidyarthi.

Siva Manasukula Sakthi, 2009

One of Jiiva’s best performances as an egoistic, ill-mannered courier boy that you oddly tend to resonate with. He’s that boy next door who leaves you with mixed feelings. Directed by M Rajesh, the film also stars Santhanam, Anuya Bhagwat, Urvashi, Sathyan and G Gnanasambandam.

Ko, 2011

This was a major turning point for the actor. He jumped from rustic roles to urbane ones and excelled in Ko. Ashwin, his character, is smart and bold and thinks on his feet with ease. You can’t help but look at him right through the film, as he holds all his scenes so well. Directed by KV Anand, the film also stars Karthika, Piaa Bajpai, and Ajmal.

Nanban, 2012

The perfect Raju Rastogi of  south, right from countenance to attitude. He reprises the cute, funny yet petrified character that Sharman Joshi played in the original 3 Idiots. Directed by Shankar, the film also stars Vijay, Srikanth, Sathyaraj, and Ileana D’Cruz.

Neethane En Pon Vasantham, 2012

With Ilaiyaraaja’s soaring music, Gautham Menon’s direction, Neethane En Pon Vasantham definitely ranks among Jiiva’s biggest films. As the on again off again couple, he as Varun and Samantha as Nithya are both great.

Jiiva’s Gypsy is expected to release on January 24, 2020.

The Best Telugu Films Of 2019 And Where To Stream Them

Oh! Baby

BV Nandini Reddy is among the country’s best directors; her films have consistently been great. She was back with Oh! Baby in 2019. This is an official Telugu remake of the 2014 Korean film Miss Granny.  Nandini made her directorial debut with the 2011 Nithya Menen, Nani starrer Ala Modalaindi, a superb rom-com and has since aced the genre. In Oh! Baby she brings together a fun script with amazing performers. Lakshmi is relatable and perfect as the bitter older woman with disappointments while Samantha breathes life on to the screen with her easy, breezy presence.

Oh! Baby is streaming on Netflix.

Dear Comrade

Lost in the din of the endless controversies around Arjun Reddy and its endless remakes in languages across the country, is this little gem of a Vijay Deverakonda starrer. For every Parasuram with Geetha Govindam (with an abominable plot), there’s a Bharat Kamma with Dear Comrade. It is perhaps the country’s first post #MeToo movie that sides with the woman. Bonus? The superb romance track between Lilly (Rashmika Mandanna) and Bobby (Vijay Deverakonda) and Justin Prabhakaran’s sublime score. Dear Comrade also had perhaps the best soundtrack of 2019.

Dear Comrade is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya

Directed by Swaroop RSJ and written by him along with the lead, Naveen Polishetty, this is a remarkable film that does not take its main man seriously. That in itself is refreshing. Naveen’s ‘Agent’ is unshackled from the burdens of the usual ‘hero’ and he is so much better off thanks to it. A hilarious scene (that was deleted) features Shruti Sharma singing (entirely off key), the title song of one of my favourite TV serials from way back. Lady Detective.

Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Brochevarevarura

This thriller comedy takes a small, simple plot, and turns it into an exciting, competent film. Almost like Priyadarshan’s old comedies in Malayalam (before they were remade for/in Bollywood). Written and directed by Vivek Athreya it stars Sree Vishnu, Nivetha Thomas, Nivetha Pethuraj, Satyadev Kancharana, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, and Rahul Ramakrishna. Two seemingly disparate track and fates converge and make for a crackling thriller, while the laughs keep things light. There’s some kidnapping, accidents, a runaway couple, and more.

Brochevarevarura is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Meeku Mathrame Chepta

A pretty good film that didn’t get as much attention as it deserved last year. The film marked Vijay Deverakonda’s entry into production and he made an unorthodox choice for the ‘hero’ — it was his first big film Pelli Choopulu’s director, Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam. The hero is about to get married and a questionable video gets leaked online. He must find the man behind the leak and stop before things go out of hand. The (double) conceit is fun, and most importantly harmless fun. Written and directed by Shammeer Sultan, it is very self-aware and makes good use of this awareness to keep things from ever getting cringy. The supporting cast too is very efficient and the film never really seems to lose pace.

Meeku Maathrame Cheptha is streaming on Hotstar.

Manmathudu 2

After his superb debut Chi La Sow,  Rahul Ravindran surprised everyone with his second film’s announcement. It was a sequel to a 2002 Nagarjuna starrer Manmanthudu. Rahul really shows you how you can show a wayward casanova in Telugu cinema without making him come across as a creep and Nagarjuna truly aces in Manmathudu 2. Most importantly no one in the film is in denial about the difference in age between the leads. This might also be Rakul Preet’s breakout role. She’s superb every time she’s on-screen. Vennela Kishore is, of course, the real hero. He’s simply hilarious. The supporting cast of Lakshmi, Devadarshini and Jhansi are all perfection.

Manmathudu 2 is streaming on Netflix.

In Jordan Peele’s Thriller Al Pacino And Co ‘Hunters’ Look For Neo-Nazis; Will Stream On Amazon Prime

Amazon Studios Original earlier released, worldwide, the teaser that brought together Jordan Peele and the legendary Al Pacino on the digital screen. Amazon Prime Video has now officially released the trailer for its upcoming conspiracy thrilling series – Hunters.

Set in the late 70s New York, the trailer follows Al Pacino gathering a ragtag team who violently hunt down Nazis living in the city and planning to start the Fourth Reich in the United States. A statement from the studio reads, “The trailer brilliantly showcases the thin line between taking matters into one’s own hands and doing it the right way. Will the Nazi hunter’s bloody quest be for the greater good or create anarchy into the justice system?”

Reportedly based on true events, the new series releases on February 21, 2020 only on Amazon Prime Video. The ensemble cast includes Logan Lerman, Jerrika Hinton, Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa Changchien, Carol Kane, Saul Rubinek, Dylan Baker and Lena Olin.

Hunters, produced by Amazon Studios, Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Sonar Entertainment, was created by Weil, who serves as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside executive producer Nikki Toscano. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon directed the pilot and is an executive producer. The series is executive produced by Win Rosenfeld from Monkeypaw Productions; Nelson McCormick; Tom Lesinski from Sonar Entertainment.

Vijay Deverakonda Is No Different In This Teaser Of ‘World Famous Lover’: Out Now

The teaser of Vijay Deverakonda starrer World Famous Lover is out now. The film directed by Kranthi Madhav (Malli Malli Idhi Rani RojuUngarala Rambabu) is being bankrolled by KS Rama Rao for Creative Commercials. Vijay will be seen sharing screen space with Aishwarya Rajesh, Catherine Tresa, Izabelle Leite and, Raashi Khanna.

There’s love, lust and a typecast Vijay Deverakonda essaying Gautham, Seenayya, and Srinu. He is seen to have flings with a hopeless romantic Yamini (Raashi), a coy housewife Suvarna (Aishwarya), a pilot Iza (Izabelle), and an entrepreneur Smitha (Catherine). We also find him confessing his love to Yamini at the end. His bare-chested shots and bearded countenance remind one of his debut Arjun Reddy

The makers took to Twitter to release the teaser.

Shot predominantly in France and Hyderabad, World Famous Lover charts the story of an audacious youth falling in love with four girls and how he chooses his partner from among,” Cinema Express reported a while ago.

World Famous Lover will have music by Gopi Sunder, camera by Jayakrishna Gummadi, Sahi Suresh on art and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao on the edit table.

Recently, the first look posters of the film were released.

World Famous Lover will hit screens worldwide for Valentine’s Day 2020.

Watch the teaser here.

Vijay Deverakonda meanwhile is also doing a film with Puri Jagannadh. Speculations are rife that he may be essaying the role of Sobhan Babu in AL Vijay’s Thalaivi, a biopic on former late Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha, headlined by Kangana Ranaut.

Ghost Stories Review: Misfires And Meaning In Netflix’s Rooted Horror Anthology

Directors: Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee, Karan Johar

Cast: Janhvi Kapoor, Vijay Varma, Sobhita Dhulipala, Mrunal Thakur, Avinash Tiwary, Surekha Sikri, Sukant Goel, Aditya Shetty, Gulshan Devaiah

The stories in Netflix’s horror anthology, Ghost Stories, are rooted and the problems seemingly arise from the horrors of life as we know it already — geriatric loneliness, abandonment, majoritarianism, lynching, death of a child and the stigma, and finally the unknowable in an arranged marriage.

Zoya Akhtar manages to infuse the air in her short with the kind of stillness that can suffocate even the young. Her film opens with cliches that say, ‘look, a horror film’ — an overcast day, a lone woman, a dead crow. Once the setting changes, indoor, Akhtar uses every frame, every movement of the camera with precision. Guiding us, telling us what to feel, every step of the way. Surekha Sikri as the senile Mrs Malik is beguiling. Jahnvi Kapoor who comes as a replacement nurse Sameera shows promise. The idea of an old woman who’s half paralysed alone in an apartment, during Mumbai’s terrifying monsoons is horrific enough. The thought of a ‘presence’ in this eerie, smelly home does give you chills, initially. The fact that the young nurse continues to remain in the house even after she sees something questionable the first night, speaks of the kind of things resilient young women will put themselves through to make it in life. There’s much in common between the two women who find themselves alone in this short. The older woman tells the younger one, she would not wait if she had a life… Perhaps this is why Sameera had to be there. To hear these words.  All said and done though, the thrills are far and few and the actual horror of it does not really hit you (long) enough. The slow-mo walking and the camera following gets a bit tiring after a point.

The symbolism of the crow spills over from one film to another in an interesting manner in Ghost Stories. Sobhita Dhulipala’s deadpan face in Anurag Kashyap’s short, while initially serving the intrigue, later on, makes her seem too distant to access. In fact, you feel absolutely no connection to any of the characters in the film. That’s also because of how disorienting the script is. You don’t know which of them is supposed to horrify the others. And so it becomes exhausting. A young mother who loses a child bears the guilt of childhood, when she was prone to accidentally dropping birds’ eggs. As an adult feeds birds in her attic, dreams of losing the baby in her womb (and there are some particularly disturbing scenes in the bathroom), has a young nephew with an almost oedipal obsession, who wants her to love him as much even after she has her baby… and he can draw and inflict pain on her… In the end though the Black Swan-esque film fails in capturing the journey of the mother who’s consumed by the idea that she’s being… or will be punished.

In Dibakar Banerjee’s film, it’s a man eat man world (and there’s a scarecrow). There’s a big town and a small town. And a government official who comes to find out just why the school in the small town isn’t good. The unnamed Visitor undergoes the horrors of the small town’s inhabitants (two kids) at the hands of the big town’s people. Through stray conversations (fights between the kids), he pieces together the kind of animosity the people of big town harbour towards the small. It’s a very effective short, in that there is the immediate physical danger that the main characters must protect themselves from, as well as the implied danger of majoritarianism and mob lynching… In one scene, the Visitor falls into a pit and everyone just looks at him. And then he folds both his hands and pleads, at which point the animal-like head of the big town pounces on him… The casting is superb and the setting eerily real. It’s a superb subversion of the zombie horror genre, without the cinematic desi verve.

Karan Johar’s final short is more a wink at the horror genre, and less a serious attempt. There’s a Sabyasachi-like wedding ad, hiding as an arranged marriage scene in there as well. Rich people meet to, maybe, have an arranged marriage; boy seems to be still talking to his dead grandmother; girl goes ahead and marries him despite the red flag and then like a detective walks around the uber-rich house (with superb wallpapers by the way), trying to ‘find’ the ghost. There’s a ‘creepy’ cook, the crow-shaped head of a walking stick, and a sleepwalking mother-in-law… The only upside though is, everyone looks polished and buff all the time, and the swearing from victim and ghost alike.

Stand-up Comedian Mervyn Rozz’s Take On Prominent Tamil Cinema Reviewers Is Accurate

A short clip from standup comedian Mervyn Rozz’s Tamil stand-up special for Evam Stand-up Tamasha is doing the rounds on social media now. Mervyn talks about how Tamil movie reviewers tend to over-embellish their critique of films and the promotional content around them.

He begins by talking of how all of the films in recent times have left him wondering about what the story is while his friends tell him he’d have to ‘decode’ it. He also takes a jibe at how films these days tend to have too much promotional content and have makers looking out for new and different ways to promote a film that might only survive a few days or so. He also joked about the “first-look” poster, a mere photo, that generates much talk and even analysis.

Rozz also took jibes at film reviewers, without naming anyone, but there were enough clues to figure out who he was talking about. From those who complicate, not-so-complex films with their analysis, to those who talk about films in a hopeless tone, complaining about template in films. He also spoke of how ‘this particular’ reviewer’s branding skills are completely awry and that the brand owner would lose all hope on the product if he got too see his advertising

He talks about how the interviews of heroines who don’t appear beyond three scenes in a film work, with a monotonous set of questions. From Vijay Anthony to Kajal Agarwal, from producer to reviewer, everyone is material for comedy.

First Look Of Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan Is Here

The first look of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus based on Kalki’s classic Ponniyin Selvan is out now.

The film starring an ensemble cast featuring the who’s who of Indian cinema, is being shot currently. The cast includes Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Nayantara, Sarath Kumar, Jayaram among others.

What’s also interesting is that the font release poster, which has the name of the technical crew does not include lyricist Vairamuthu. In fact there’s no mention of the lyricist at all.

It was earlier reported that lyricist Vairamuthu may be dropped from Ponniyin Selvan.

No official confirmation had come from the Ponniyin Selvam team. However, a source close to the production told Silverscreen, that the crew is yet to decide if he’s there in the project or not.

Parthiban Announces His Next Titled ‘Iravin Nizhal’

Following the success of Oththa Seruppu Size 7, actor-director-producer Radhakrishnan Parthiban has announced his next film titled Iravin Nizhal. The announcement came from actor-director Bharathiraja on the morning of 1st January on Facebook. The director congratulated and wished Parthiban luck for the film.

The film has been touted to be Asia’s first single-shot feature film, although several films in Asia have adopted the same technique. It is noteworthy that a Tamil horror film Agadam (2014) directed by Mohamad Issack is also among the list and happens to be the first Tamil feature film taken in one shot. It also claims to be the first film to be shot using night effects with a hand-held camera. It entered the Guinness World Records as the longest uncut film, with a run time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 30 seconds, shot on 7 December 2012.

The cast and crew details of Iravin Nizhal are yet to be revealed by the actor.

Here is the title poster.

Meanwhile, his earlier feature Oththa Seruppu Size 7 did the rounds in the international festival circuit, Golden Globe and was recently also screened at the Chennai International Film Festival, 2019. The film solely featured Parthiban as a murder suspect who also took up the mantle of director and producer for the film.

Ranjit Jeyakodi’s Next With Bindu Madhavi and Darshana Banik Wraps Up Shoot

Film maker Ranjit Jeyqakodi next film, Production No.1, produced by Third Eye Entertainment, has wrapped up its shooting schedule, reportedly despite challenges posed by the weather.

“The credit for this lightning fast shoot goes to the entire team. If even one person was not at their 100%, the process would have failed. We shot in extremely challenging conditions in Ooty over 30 days,” said the director.

“At one point during the shoot, I was apprehensive about the artistes, especially Bindu Madhavi and Darshana Banik, on whether they would be able to handle the cold or not. I was pleasantly surprised by their sincerity and dedication,” he added.

One of the major challenges during filming was the lighting. However, the  director said, “The technical crew really pitched in with their expertise and the shot was smooth.”

With the shooting wrapped up, the post-production work is now on, and the makers are gearing up for the First Look announcements to be made soon.

The film is tentatively titled Production No.1. The film revolves around family drama between two sisters, played by Bindu Madhavi and Darshana Banik, when they go to their home town to sell their ancestral property.

From Aadai To Super Deluxe, The Best Costumes Of Tamil Cinema 2019

If one were to define a character in a film, their costumes would play an integral role. It defines a character, their mood and even their background. One doesn’t need words to specify where a person is from or is in a certain mood if the appropriate costume is given to the performer.

Some films use costumes as a way to communicate underlying meaning, in historical movies costumes are a major aspect of the film itself, in some films costumes just make the screen pop with colour. Silverscreen has put together a list of 5 costume designers whose work stood out in 2019:

1. Petta – Niharika Bhasin Khan

If Superstar Rajinikanth looked fabulous in both the flashback and his warden portions of Karthik Subbaraj‘s Petta, the credit solely goes to Niharika for it. The clothes she designed for the actor took into account the context of the character like the weather conditions without compromising on the style quotient in both timelines.

He slays in the traditional pattu-veshti as well as in the muffler and sweatshirt combo. Apart from Rajinikanth, she has also made the rest of the actors – Simran, Trisha, Sasikumar, and Malavika Mohanan – standout with their clothes.

2. Super DeluxeEzhil Mathi

If there’s a movie in recent times that’s made a special effort with costumes, it’s Thiagarajan Kumararaja‘s Super Deluxe. The female leads, Samantha and Gayathrie, were in solid colours reflecting their simple and calm nature. While Vijay Sethupathi was in a blue saree with a red blouse, two contrasting colours just like him and the society he exists in. And of course, we cannot miss out on the Schrodinger’s cat on Gaaji’s t-shirt that completes itself once he unites with the extraterrestrial being. Not to forget Super Deluxe has the honour of having the writing on a character’s clothes censored (just before interval).

3. Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum – Tina Rosario

Ranjith Jeyakodi‘s Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum featured a mercurial Gautham (Harish Kalyan) and a happy-go-lucky Tara (Shilpa Manjunath). Their clothes were a clear indicator of their personalities. While Gautham was always in checked shirts, tucked out most of the time, Tara wasn’t restricted to a particular piece of clothing. Add to it the fact that these looks stood out on camera, it was a perfect cocktail.

4. Ayogya – Uthara Menon

Uthara Menon’s work in Venkat Mohan’s Ayogya screams style. All the costumes have a certain high fashion aesthetic and beauty in them with Raashi Khanna‘s on top of the list. Vishal is always in dark-coloured shirts (the bad cop) while Parthiepan is all flashy clothes, a peek into the light-hearted villain that he essays.

5. Aadai – Kavitha J

If there was one question I heard a lot before, during and after Rathna Kumar‘s Aadai released, it was “Why do you need a costume designer for a film that doesn’t require clothes?”

What is not commonly known is that looking naked on screen requires a lot of planning and attention to detail, especially a film whose entire premise is that the actor will be “naked” most of the time.

We all know that an actor isn’t actually naked, but, is made to look that way. Amala Paul, with the help of Kavitha, managed to convince the audiences of the unclothed state perfectly. Even in the other portions, she’s cool and sassy with loose tops and shades.

Watch: Naseeruddin Shah Reads The Preamble, TM Krishna Sings The National Anthem

Karwan e Mohabbat is a movement of sorts which “was crafted as a journey of atonement, solidarity, conscience and justice.” It supports diverse citizen hate crime watch efforts.

“What defines India?” A new video from Karwan asks, “What makes us ‘the Indian people’? What holds together a country with the diversity of a continent? More than anything else it’s our constitution in whose preamble we, the people of India, define ourselves with the virtues we revere and seek to preserve and uphold. In the continuing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the upcoming NPR-NRC, it is once again the time to look back at the diversity of our country, its geography and its people, and our constitutional virtues.”

Natty Replaces Gautham Vasudev Menon in Sibiraj’s ‘Walter’

Cinematographer-actor Natarajan Subramaniam aka Natty was last seen in Sivakarthikeyan’s Namma Veettu Pillai. He will now be seen in Sibiraj’s next, Walter. Speaking about this latest development, debutant director U Anbu, said, “Gautham Menon sir had confirmed his time to us for the movie, as everyone knows. However, there were a few pressing commitments at his end that he couldn’t avoid, so he had to leave the film.”

“We approached Natty sir after the release of Namma Veettu Pillai. After he heard the full script, he agreed to take up this role,” the director added. Natty’s portions for the film have been shot for 15 days across Kumbakonam, Chennai and Tanjore.

There have been a lot of speculations about the nature of this character, and Anbu puts the record straight about that. “This is a character that is hard to define as good or bad. He will keep you guessing until the end,” he said.

Talking about Sibiraj’s performance, Anbu said, “Sibiraj has proven himself as a performer. He is not just a person who wears makeup and gets in front of the camera. He is also immensely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of film making. His turn as a cop in Walter will get everyone’s attention for sure.”

Directed by U Anbu, Walter is produced by Shruthi Tilak for 11:11 Productions. The film also stars Shirin Kanchwala as the female lead, and Samuthirakani appears in a prominent role.

The other technical crew include Dharma Prakash (Music), Rasamathi (DOP), Elayaraja.S (Editor), Arivumathi-Arun Bharathi-Uma Devi (Lyrics), A.R. Mohan (Art), Dastha (Choreography), Vicky (Stunts).
