Actor Arulnithi has teamed up with director Arivazhagan, of Eeram and Vallinam fame, for his next film, a remake of director Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam film, Memories. Shooting for the film will commence in October.
Overall, Papanasam is definitely one of the best remakes in Kamal’s career and he just proves what an actor he can be if given a perfect script. Its a gripping crime thriller without blood, fights and gory scenes. The winner here is the screenplay and equally backed up by some stellar performances by Kamal Haasan. A must watch family entertainer with some intelligent writing and narration. Papanasam, a Jeethu Joseph and Kamal Haasan film.
Coming to the technical side, director Jeethu Joseph has delivered the film successfully with a thrilling screenplay. The director has done justice to the remake, without compromising on its originality. The minor changes from the original version has made the film more appealing to the Tamil audience which is appreciable. M. Ghibran’s music and background score has enhanced the mood of the film and boosted the essence of suspense in the film. Sujith Vaassudev’s amazing cinematography has covered the scenic beauty of the village. Despite being a lengthy movie, editor Ayoob Khan has successfully maintained the pace of the film.
Last, but definitely not the least, all credits to director Jeethu Joseph and his team of writers, for a brilliant tale and for extracting the best from each member of the team.
Except for small flaws here and there, Papanasam is an uncompromising attempt. Jeethu Joseph’s golden script must be lauded for working in every language that it has been tried in, for Papanasam is a belter in terms of its paperwork. You cannot ask for a better actor to play the lead role in Tamil. And yes, you cannot ask for a better reason to go watch this film.
We all know that Papanasam is a winning script and retaining Jeethu Joseph has helped immensely. But when a performer called Kamal Haasan takes up such a project, magic on screen is rest assured.
Also promising is the fact that Jeethu Joseph who conceived the original is at the helm of this project and brings with him a major chunk of his cast and crew – Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Kalabhavan Mani, editor Ayoob Khan and cinematographer Sujith Vaassudev are all a part of this one.Venkatesh gave his film some of his good ol’ boy shtick, Ravichandran… well, hammed his way out of the movie; and Ajay Devgn is apparently bringing his six packs along for the ride.
Jeethu Joseph’s Papanasam, starring Kamal Haasan, has been awarded a ‘U’ certificate by the Censor board today. It must be noted that no ‘cuts’ were suggested for the film, either. Papanasam is a remake of 2013 blockbuster Malayalam film, Drishyam.
The plagiarism controversy surrounding Papanasam director Jeethu Joseph has come to an end now. A writer from Kerala, Sateesh Paul, had claimed that the plot of Drishyam and the remakes that followed were plagiarised from his novel – Oru Mazhakkalath. Following his petition, a temporary ban was placed on the shooting of the Tamil version. After legal intervention from the producers of Papanasam, the Kamal Haasan – Gauthami film was allowed to finish shoot and is currently in post-production. The latest is that a court in Ernakulam has dismissed the petition of Sateesh Paul, in what is a victory for director Jeethu Joseph. The court’s decision paves way for the film’s release this summer.
The shooting of Kamal Haasan’s Papanasam has been wrapped up. The film is the Tamil remake of the Malayalam movie, Drishyam. Actress Gouthami comes back to acting after 19 years with this flick. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the movie also features Nivedha Thomas, Asha Sharath and Kalabhavan Mani. Papanasam – reportedly filmed in 39 days – will feature a lot of stunt sequences unlike the original.
Papanasam, the Tamil remake of Drishyam, is now being filmed at Thodupuzha, Kerala, the location where the original Malayalam film was shot. The shoot is progressing rapidly and the team will move on to Kuttralam next. The film features Kamal Haasan, Gouthami in lead roles, while Asha Sharath, Nivedha Thomas and Kalabhavan Mani form the supporting cast. Director Jeethu Joseph, who made the original, is directing the Tamil remake as well.
Trouble is brewing for Kamal Haasan on the sets of Drishyam remake. The actor has been filming some scenes in the Nanguneri Mutt late last month, and already, things have gone a little awry for him.Kamal Haasan and Gouthami Tadimella star in this as yet-untitled remake of the hit Malayalam movie. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, who conceived the original, the film began shoot only recently.
Pranav, son of superstar Mohanlal is currently working as an Assistant Director in the Tamil remake of Drishyam with Jeethu Joseph. Tentatively titled Papanasam, the shooting of the Kamal Haasan film is progressing in Chennai now. “Pranav is very quiet on the sets. Unless someone reminds me, I often forget that he is Mohanlal’s son. He is very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of cinema,” says Jeethu Joseph. Pranav’s uncle Suresh Balaji is producing the film. It is hardly a surprise that the 24-year-old chose direction over acting as he has always maintained that he aspired to be behind the camera. Having said that he has shown his acting prowess as a child and even won a state award in 2002 for the Malayalam film Punarjani. He has also been part of his dad’s films like Onnaman and Sagar Alias Jacky.
Gouthami will play Kamal Haasan’s wife in the Tamil remake of Drishyam, director Jeethu Joseph confirmed the news to Silverscreen. The role was originally played by actress Meena, who also reprised it in Telugu. Also, Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani has been finalised to essay the role of the antagonist police constable (played by Kalabhavan Shajon in the original).
It is to be noted that Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor has also issued a legal notice to Jeethu Joseph alleging similarities between Drishyam and the novel The Devotion of Suspect X, for which she holds the film rights.A man from Kerala has claimed that the blockbuster Malayalam movie, helmed by Jeethu Joseph, was inspired by his novel Oru Mazhakkalath and has approached a court in Ernakulam to resolve the issue.
Actor Kamal Haasan will be speaking the Nellai dialect of Tamil in the upcoming Drishyam remake. Also starring actress Gouthami, the movie is set against the backdrop of Thirunelveli and will have the lead pair playing a middle class Hindu couple, in direct contrast to the Malayalam original. Composer Ghibran has reportedly been approached to score for this movie. Drishyam’s director Jeethu Joseph will be helming the Tamil re-make as well, and the team is currently on the lookout for a perfect title for the film.
