That GV Prakash has built an acting career for himself in Tamil is something Kollywood should never want to forgive itself for. Throughout the movie, he is either grossly over the top or largely inadequate; hamming it up generously in romantic scenes, comedy scenes, stunt scenes and all other sequences in between. As the lead in this movie, GV Prakash displays neither screen presence nor any acting skills of note.

Hansika yet again is adorable as a bubbly spoilt sister, then menacing as the ghost. Her role is quite brief, but does the trick pretty well. The talented Siddharth’s role is etched with shades of what Vinay had in the first part, more scope could have been provided to prove his abilities apart from tagging along with the storyline. Trisha does her part well, but the predictable screenplay gives her character way pretty easily missing the element of surprise. Sundar C is in his comfortable role, a brother who wants to get to the bottom of the chaos with a small twist in the climax.
Overall, Aranmanai 2 has nothing different to offer than its antecessor, except for Siddharth, Trisha and the magnitude.
At a time when a younger generation of film makers in Kollywood are coming up with well-made horror films like Maya, Pisaasu and Demonte Colony, Aranmanai 2 looks like a grinch in a hip Bengaluru pub.In one scene, when two comedians (Soori and his accomplice) try to trick the ghost, she plays along. Because Aranmanai’s evil spirit is someone who prefers brainless fun over matter.

While the film has a broad critique of how the media manipulates the audience, the director takes the thought to its logical conclusion by making Prakash Raj into a blood sucking villain.Jayam Ravi as Booloham is a North Madras boxer who wants to avenge his father’s death.A massive and ferocious Jaya Ravi (who obligingly poses for the audience every 30 minutes) take on a regional and national champion, before taking on the ‘Half-hulk’ Nathan Jones in the climax.
The film’s biggest USP is Jayam Ravi who surrenders to his character. He is credible and convincing and all the hard work shows on screen. Prakash Raj is in top form. Trisha looks pretty but has nothing much to do except motivating the hero.
One other biggest pluses from the movie is the casting department; after some good performances from Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Prakash Raj, Arpit ( who played Duruyodhana in Mahabarata serial), Nathan Jones and Ponvannan too do justice to their characters.
All said, the movie is a good entertainer of sorts, watch it for Jayam Ravi’s heavy duty thara local gimmicks and some guaranteed good boxing sequences.

Director Sundar C’s Aranmanai 2, which was initially scheduled to release on Pongal 2016, will hit theatres on January 29. Producer Kushboo Sundar, on Twitter, confirmed the news and added that the team was working on the post-production part.
Director V Kalyanakrishnan’s Bhooloham, after years of delay, will release on December 24 as a Christmas special. A new trailer of the film will be unveiled this evening on Sony Music India’s YouTube channel. Produced by Ascar Films Pvt Ltd. Bhooloham’s release was put on hold due to financial issues.
